African cardinal rebukes Cardinal Marx’s call for apology to homosexuals

In a pithy tweet on Saturday, a prominent South African cardinal rebuked German Cardinal Reinhard Marx’s claim that the Church should “apologize” to homosexuals.

“God help us! Next we’ll have to apologise for teaching that adultery is a sin! Political Correctness (PC) is today’s major heresy!” Cardinal Wilfrid Fox Napier tweeted.

Napier posted his tweet in response to African pro-life and pro-family activist Obianuju Ekeocha, the founder of Culture of Life Africa, who tweeted an Irish Times article about Marx’s comments. Marx, the Archbishop of Munich and Freising, said that up until “very recently” the Catholic Church had been “very negative about gay people,” and that “it was a scandal and terrible.”

Here goes Card Marx: Church must apologise to gay ppl Dear Lord, pls help AfricanBishops to fight the heresy of 2016

Cardinal Napier

God help us! Next we’ll have to apologise for teaching that adultery is a sin! Political Correctness (PC) is today’s major heresy! Marx suggested that the Church begin to look favorably on same-sex relationships, although not recognize them as marriages.

“You cannot say that a relationship between a man and a man, and they are faithful, [that] that is nothing, that has no worth,” he said.

The Catholic Church teaches that same-sex attractions are “objectively disordered,” but those who experience them “must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided” (CCC 2358).

The Catholic Church also teaches that “under no circumstances” can homosexual actions be approved. Such actions “are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity” (CCC 2357).

Marx also commented on government recognition of same-sex relationships, saying it’s up to the state “to make regulations for homosexuals so they have equal rights or nearly equal . . . but marriage is another point,” and that the state “has to regulate these partnerships and to bring them into a just position, and we as church cannot be against it.”

In a 2003 document titled Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith under Pope St. John Paul II wrote that “clear and emphatic opposition” to legalized same-sex “marriage” is a duty for Catholics:

In those situations where homosexual unions have been legally recognized or have been given the legal status and rights belonging to marriage, clear and emphatic opposition is a duty. One must refrain from any kind of formal cooperation in the enactment or application of such gravely unjust laws and, as far as possible, from material cooperation on the level of their application. In this area, everyone can exercise the right to conscientious objection.

On Sunday, Pope Francis echoed Marx’s statement that Christians should apologize to homosexuals.

I wonder if Pope Francis thinks that Muslims should apologize to homosexuals, for throwing them off of buildings?

Seems to me that whatever mistreatment of homosexuals, that Francis wants to apolgize for, pales in comparison to how homosexuals are summarily executed by Muslims.

You certainly cannot claim this “pope” is infallible.

Can I ask a stupid question?

Is the Pope saying that homosexuality is not sinful, or never was actually sinful behavior? So that from a theological viewpoint, he now wants to apologize?

Isn’t it a fact that there are many sinful behaviors, aside from homosexuality, which Christians and Catholics call sinful, and are against their theology???

Why are we singling out homosexual behavior as somehow “less sinful” or a “special” category of sin???

Faced with a lost and dying world, these clerics want to apologize for offering salvation.

Thank God there is still a remnant that knows what their calling is and Who called them.

This guy should replace the current anti-Pope. It is good to see that there are still many out there fighting the good fight.

Pope Francis is after a one world government. He would like the Catholic Church to be the one world church to go along with the one world government. He apparently worships at the feet of unification with all beliefs. Isn’t that the sweetest thing? /s

He is particularly after the Western Catholic Church and all “Traditional” Catholic Church teaching, along with their “traditional” practices.

He would like to transition Christ’s Church into one, with the radical Episcopalians and with “mercy” and not penance, for sin.

Actually, this Vatican seems to be moving toward complicity with sin.

He is not just a Modernist, he’s far worse, but he is in the end just one bad-apple pope, among centuries of good popes.

The starting point for sizing this pope up is that first and foremost, he-is-not-Catholic. He simply goes a few of the motions.

The Episcopalians have already done that - Bishop Gene Robinson cheated on his wife, left his wife and kids for his lover, lived in sin, lied about it, divorced his wife and the mother of his children to marry his lover... and shortly after that got divorced again.

Robinson is considered a moral example by the lefties...

...because he’s gay.

Update, June 29: (attached to the end of posted article)

In a series of subsequent Twitter exchanges, Napier clarified that he was not criticizing Pope Francis.

“I said: political correctness is THE major heresy! I didn't in any way define what is PC or not!” he wrote.

He wrote that Pope Francis’s call for an apology referred also to others “who are marginalised, and who should be included in the Church's apology for not intervening on their behalf.”

Card. Napier sent the first tweet at the weekend before he'd heard that Francis had said essentially the same thing as Marx. Hence the "what I really meant" clarification above. That's a shame. Nonsense is nonsense, no matter who utters it.

I guess he's not quite ready yet for open confrontation with Francis.

I’m in full agreement with you.

Thank God, POPE BenedictXVI is alive and well.

I pray he’s making notes or keeping a diary for later publication.

As I understand it, the apology is about the "treatment" of gays not the teachings about sexual behavior.

A fine line I suppose.

RIP: the former Roman Catholic Church.

It was replaced by an entirely new religion that has nothing to do with the Holy Trinity and much to do with secular humanism. The pope is merely the CEO.

“Is the Pope Catholic?” is no longer a rhetorical question.

That is a shame. It seems no Church hierarchs are willing to acknowledge the emperor is wearing no clothes.

But it is understandable, as we’ve seen how Francis has treated and silenced his orthodox “enemies”.

I'm not sticking up for it.

But it's still not the same as repudiating the doctrines.

Yes, to Cardinal Wilford Fox Napier’s statement! A scary warning.
