In 'Shocking' Move, California Churches Forced to Cover Abortions

Washington D.C., Jun 22, 2016 / 04:54 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- The Obama administration has rejected a challenge to the State of California’s requirement that health care plans include abortion coverage. A major federal budget amendment intended to protect abortion foes does not apply, it ruled.

Leaders with the U.S. bishops’ conference said it was “shocking” that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services allowed the State of California to force all employers, including churches, to fund and facilitate elective abortions.

“Even those who disagree on the issue of life should be able to respect the conscience rights of those who wish not to be involved in supporting abortion,” Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York and Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore said June 21.

The cardinal chairs the U.S. bishops’ pro-life committee, while the archbishop chairs the conference’s ad hoc religious freedom committee.

California’s mandatory abortion coverage rule responded to the efforts of two Catholic universities, Santa Clara University and Loyola Marymount University, which had sought health care plans that did not include elective abortion coverage. However, some faculty members objected to the exclusion of the coverage and their allies sought state intervention.

In August 2014 California’s Department of Managed Health Care ruled that the plans must cover the procedure. A 1975 state health care law and the California constitution, it said, prohibits health plans “from discriminating against women who choose to terminate a pregnancy.”

The insurers and the universities agreed to comply with the state’s requirements, the Los Angeles Times reports. However, Alliance Defending Freedom, the Life Legal Defense Foundation and the Catholic Bishops of California filed several federal legal complaints against the rule. The complaints charged that the state rule discriminated against those who object to abortion.

If a massive earthquake hits California soon, do not be surprised. God will not be mocked.

‘If a massive earthquake hits California soon, do not be surprised. God will not be mocked.’

We were already hit with the massive earthquake of 3rd world immigration, legal as well as illegal.

While I think that it is terrible what the California Democrats are doing to persecute the Churches and religious freedom, the Catholic Bishops have been appeasing Catholic pro-abortion politicians for many years now.

The Catholic Bishops never realized that evil cannot be appeased or worse still they have been secretly complicit.

“However, some faculty members objected to the exclusion of the coverage and their allies sought state intervention.”

some faculty members objected to the exclusion of the coverage (if true, they should have been terminated)

their allies sought state intervention.” (if true, they should have been terminated for associating with abortionists) either way; the problem might have been solved before it became a Federal matter.

‘The insurers and the universities agreed to comply with the state’s requirements, the Los Angeles Times reports.’

The Universities didn’t even put a fight? Disgraceful.

Not to mention the glaring irony that Vatican II heretically taught (and post-Vatican II bishops heretically teach) that religious freedom is a human right. Perhaps the "Catholic bishops" need to re-think that and consider how that heresy has only helped allow certain secular changes to occur.

What should truly be bothersome is the fact that some “faculty members” were the ones who got this started. Judas’s in the ranks who were willing to sell out their superiors for political 30 pieces of silver.

I heard early on that Obamacare excluded Muslims, Amish etc. Gave them “waivers”. I wonder if this is true and, if so, how we could verify it (since gubmint lies like a rug).

Two words: civil disobedience.

But then they’re too cowardly.

Satan loves death.

He especially loves the death of the innocent.

Why is anyone confused about who/what is actually the driving force behind all of the issues near and dear to leftwingers?

In the 80’s, I used to think our political struggle was conservatives vs. liberals/progressives.

Then I came see that there were deeper layers than that. In the 00’s, I understood it was western civilization vs. cultural marxism.

I now believe that the core of this onion is simply the age old battle between good and evil. It’s God vs. Satan. light vs. darkness. right vs. wrong.

People advocating for easy, cheap, and commonplace abortion are doing the bidding of Satan whether they know it or not.
