Since Baal was the Canaanites’ god, I’m going to guess it was adoration. They were polytheists, as I understand it.

Officer gets down on one knee to give folded US flag to the son of the deceased at a military funeral. Adoration or veneration?

Suitor drops to one knee to ask his beloved’s hand in marriage. Adoration or veneration?

Abigail prostrates before David the King. Adoration or veneration?

Please keep in mind that symbolic gestures, even more than words, are polysemic.

Everybody realizes this,I think, on a daily basis in everyday life, except when discussing other people's religious beliefs.
