Very good summation of the Charismatic Movement in general. The denominational church may also be included in Matthew 7...”Many good works” (I.e. Soup kitchens and pantries, helping illegals, etc, but no engrafted word which is able to save souls!)
...one other point: even while the movement in general has degenerated to heresy, there are still true Christians benefitting from the promise in Joel 2 regarding God pouring out His Spirit in the last days
I've run into a lot of anti-intellectualism among believers.
The man I know who is most susceptible to it is someone who does not see himself as a smart man. He's wonderful Christian who was saved out of a background of drugs etc, but did not do well in school and sees everyone around him as *smarter* than him.
He does have a good mind and is very sharp and has discernment. But from the comments he's made in the past, clearly does not consider his intellect as his strong point.
So I think there's an appeal to people who feel inadequate intellectually because when it becomes a matter of the heart, they feel more on equal ground with everyone else. Then they can condemn *intellectualism* and people using their minds to relate to God and then feel good about themselves, than they are just as good as everyone else.
