The Bible is on American Library Association's list of 'most challenged' books
The Bible is on the latest list of books most objected to at US schools and libraries, targeted nationwide, at times for the sex and violence it contains, but mostly for the legal issues it raises.
"You have people who feel that if a school library buys a copy of the Bible, it’s a violation of Church and state," said James LaRue, who directs the Office for Intellectual Freedom for the American Library Association (ALA), which released its annual 10 top snapshot of "challenged" books on Monday, part of the association's State of Libraries Report for 2016.
He added: "And sometimes there's a retaliatory action, where a religious group has objected to a book and a parent might respond by objecting to the Bible."
LaRue emphasised that the library association does not oppose having Bibles in public schools. Guidelines for the Office for Intellectual Freedom note that the Bible "does not violate the separation of Church and state as long as the library does not endorse or promote the views included in the Bible."
The ALA also favours including a wide range of religious materials, from the Koran to the Bhagavad Gita to the Book of Mormon. LaRue added that the association does hear of complaints about the Koran, but fewer than for the Bible.

What ever happened to the Left’s fondness for defending & promoting “banned books”?
People who object to the Bible in a library should be publicly flogged.
Objected to by satanists, atheists (same thing; they just don’t realize it yet), Muslims, Commies, liberals, Obama, etc...
And which fairies gathered this information? Bet it’s completely false...
We’re lost.
There is nothing in ancient history that is more documented than the Bible. And they’re trying to deny these books in libraries? They’re like NAZIs and ISIS.
Any Lefty trying to run that line of "reasoning" by ol' Tom Jefferson, author of the 'separation of church and state' quote, would have gotten the taste slapped out of their mouth.
However, Koran purchases are encouraged.
So what? What ever happened to finding the balls to tell totalitarians that they're wrong? What ever happened to just saying NO?
Administrators are worms.
The Left never defended and promoted "banned books." They burned them instead.

Antiochus IV Epiphanes tried to destroy it.
The Caesars released the Legions of Rome to destroy it.
Mohammed tried to replace and destroy it.
Kings tried to prevent its translation.
Atheists denigrate it.
So what is in it that terrorizes them so? Perhaps they should read it and find out.
I had a comparative religion class in high school. It was more a comparative of the literary styles and mythology.
You kind of need to have religious books if you are going to have an “intellectual” conversation about them.

The left hears the word “Bible”, and they salivate censorship. It’s a Pavlovian response they have.
Each year the American Library Association fakes the “Banned Books Week” list to drum up business for itself. In reality, very few books are challenged and none have been banned since 1963. One year I found out the top listed book was challenged only four times all year across the entire USA. Big whoop. That same year the author of the ninth-listed book revealed that ALA told her others where challenged more than hers but since it dealt with homosexuality, they put it on the list.
