Would I be correct in assuming, that if people wait till they die, to figure out if they are going to Heaven, they stand about a 99.9999999% chance that they will experience hellfire and brimstone?

Even though the Bible speaks multiple times of having assurance of salvation. However, if you think it takes good works to contribute to your salvation, then it becomes a points based system. And you are never told how many points you need, so you never know if you've done enough. Fortunately Satan has led you to believe that there's still some place called Purgatory where you can work it off, or masses can be said that will reduce your time there. So relax.
