Two great songs of this video are, He The Lover Of My Soul, a small spiritual and Jesus Love Me, This I Know, written by William B. Bradbury. Covered by me and my mandolin.
STILL in the woodshed, eh?
At least it’s a break from Trump, Cruz and Pope Francis. :)
True indeed. I’ve always held that it does a man good to have a shed or workshop or someplace where he can make wood-shavings and not count his calories.
Yup. :)
(1) Charles Wesley wrote the poetic verse for "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" (click here) before 1779, and its usual melody was composed by Simeon B. Marsh about 45 years later. Other tunes were also proposed for the verse.
(2) Anna B. Warner wrote the verse to Jesus Loves Me (click here) in 1860. Two years later, in composing the melodic line, William B. Bradbury, added a chorus to the stanzas, and therefore sealed the notes to the song by adding "Yes, Jesus loves me; yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so." The word added by Bradbury was "Yes." The remainder of the chorus line was taken from Miss Warner's poem.
Thanks for taking time and giving good information on the songs.
There are books with whole stories about the lives of the creators of these Spirit-gifted passionate hymn-writing lovers of Jesus before the coming of soap operas and Uncle Bob's peanut gallery to blind the minds of old women and their little charges.
What if you found a mouth-organ player to back up your mandolin? A homemade revival, maybe? Our fraternity could have used one--a revival, that is. Grandma Nellie could have gotten one started up all by herself.
Thanks for the memories . . . take it away once more, R!
Thanks for your comment and my son who lives in Texas, plays the mouth-organ/harmonica and I live in Florida. :(
