One of the biggest discrepancies in translations from Hebrew to the KJV Old Testament is discussed. I found this quite handy whenever any of my Christian friends makes an assumption that I believe the KJV is "my bible" when it's not.

True, the Old Testament in the KJV isn’t perfect. No translation is. It is beautifully rendered, however, at least overall.

Why strive to read G-d’s own holy language, the very words with which He “spoke” the world into existence, when you can read a Dark Ages translation of a translation (of a translation.)
How do you write SARC in Hebrew?
Brothers and sisters of the Most High, take the initiative and start to fulfill Zechariah 8:23. Find your local neighborhood orthodox Jew (look for the strings hanging off the corners of his shirt,) and ask him to teach you Torah. Enough passive waiting. We want Moshiach now.

What?
Original source material in the very language the One-and-Only G-d used to create the world?
Outrageous!

I take it this guy is an apologist for “Qaraite Judaism?”

So when the Mormon’s teach:
“We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.”
This would be the more correct way of viewing the Bible then.
Interesting.

Wikipedia says he is a “Karaite Jew.” But he acts much more like a Protestant minister, and if he believes in J*sus no way is he a real Qara’i.

Not true. You need to do a little checking up on the translation of the King James.

Well, one of the nice things about the KJV is that we don’t need to rely on the translation alone. With Strong’s Concordance available to everyone online now, you can look up every word in the KJV to see the original Hebrew and the possible translations of the Hebrew words.
Some Christians simply won’t bother with that, but I have found those are usually the type that are emotionally attached to some interpretation they can only prop up if they don’t examine the source text.

"Find your local neighborhood orthodox Jew (look for the strings hanging off the corners of his shirt,) and ask him to teach you Torah."
Many Orthodox rabbis, for good and understandable reasons, will avoid answering anyone who makes such a request. Some rabbis will agree to do so only if asked very nicely several times from a humble and unassuming perspective. Converting is a long, involved and very dedicated undertaking requiring often difficult life changes for anyone really wanting to do so.
Nehemia Gordon, the man in the video presentation referred to in the post above this thread, is a Karaite--very controversial from an Orthodox perspective (Karaites viewed as unorthodox/apostate).

“J*sus”
Why the asterisk in Jesus? It’s not some unspeakable “holy name”, it’s the name of a man, one that his Jewish friends were happy to write out in full many times.

Well, that depends on the motivations behind their stance.
If their motives were to simply ensure that they are not attributing things to God inaccurately, then that would be a good and proper motive. However, with the Mormons, their motivation is to be able to freely ignore any parts of the Bible that conflict with the teachings of Joseph Smith. That’s not a good and proper motive.

Jews don’t believe Jesus was the Messiah. He’s definitely a Jew.
There are people in this world who are Hebrew scholars that talk like normal people to other normal people.

Yes, it appears that he is Karaite and not chrstian, although he does make presentations, grants interviews to them and talks funny. I'm skeptical, don't know one way or the other and won't say one way or another at this time (re. gossip and a time of difficulty in identifying souls). As for Karaites, it's difficult to believe that one could turn out to be Orthodox. But how much might one particular individual be able to see from study of Tanakh (re. Shaar Hayichud)? Might it be possible for such a person to agree with the sages?

Yes, that’s true. Karaite Jews believe oral Torah doesn’t take precedence over written Torah.
The point is if you want to know God’s instructions (sorry, I don’t hyphenate), then you read the Tanakh in the original Hebrew as any translation is subject to fitting some man made religious theology.
I don’t see why any Orthodox Jew would take issue with that.

Jesus is the Latinized Greek version. Yeshua is the Romanized Hebrew version.

and you base this understanding of mormons’ motivations on what exactly?

To clarify, there is no need to convert. Just to follow the G-d of Israel. (including shunning any notion of a trinity.)
