9 I speak the truth in Christ-I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit- 2 I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race, 4 the people of Israel. Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Because of Paul's arguments against circumcision, a casual observer could get the impression that he didn't like Jewish People. Nothing, however, could be further from the truth! Paul believes with all his heart that Salvation depends upon Faith in the Messiah, and sees large numbers of his own People who do not believe. It is heartbreaking for him to see this, and he states here that he would even give up his OWN Eternal Salvation if somehow that would bring all of his fellow Jews into saving faith.

Of course, God would never require such a thing from Paul, and Paul probably knew that as well, but it was his heart's cry that he would do anything to get his People saved.
