More than 100 senior Anglicans have urged the Church of England to repent for "discriminating" against lesbian and gay Christians.
The demand is made in a letter to the Archbishops of Canterbury and York ahead of a meeting of 39 primates from the global Anglican Communion.
They say the Church must acknowledge members around the world have been treated as "second-class citizens".
The Church of England says the letter will be discussed at their meeting.
The Bishop of Buckingham and several cathedral deans are among the 105 signatories.
'Interpreting scriptures'
The letter asks the two archbishops "to take an unequivocal message" to the meeting.
It urges them to tell the other leaders that the Anglican Church needs to acknowledge it "failed in our duty of care" to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Christians and "apologise for our part in perpetuating rather than challenging ill-informed beliefs".
It adds: "We understand that the primates come from a variety of contexts with differing ways of interpreting the scriptures, but we urge you to be prophetic in your action."
The Anglican communion in Canterbury from Monday is scheduled to last a week.
But BBC religious affairs correspondent Caroline Wyatt said there were fears disagreements over issues of sexuality could lead to a walk out by conservative Church leaders from nations such as Uganda and Kenya.
The rift in Anglican Church over sexuality is even greater than that over women priests and bishops and those against homosexuality on biblical grounds want the liberal wing of the Church to repent over consecrating openly gay bishops and clergy, she said.
The letter was organised by Jayne Ozanne, former director of the Accepting Evangelicals group which campaigns for the rights of gay, bisexual and transgender Christians.
'Vilified'
She told BBC News a "line" had been reached.
"It was time to.........

Theynare not a genuine part of the real church universal anymore. They may dress the part but that’s it. Apologists for particular, preferred perversions.
Wait, why single out discriminating against homosexuals? Why stop there? How about pedophiles, child rapists, murderers, tax cheats, adulterers, fornicators, liars, thieves, idolaters......Why should the line be drawn at homosexuality? Why?
All for the privilege of 2% of the population pretending that homosexual behavior is not only "healthy and normal" but God-blessed.
As my (Southern Baptist) pastor said this evening - anyone is welcome in our church, as long as they don’t disrupt worship. Membership, however, is reserved only for those who are willing to repent of sinful lifestyles.
What does that even mean?
Sort of like dry water, healthy donuts, or truthful liberals.
“How about pedophiles, child rapists, murderers, tax cheats, adulterers, fornicators, liars, thieves, idolaters......Why should the line be drawn at homosexuality?”
It won’t be. Romans 1:
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know Godâs righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
It was a metaphorical question, and you missed the full impact of the passage in Romans. It starts here: Romans 1:18-32.
basicaly they want to church to stop with the sin shaming.
We had a visit from our Bishop last week (Anglican Church of North America), and he told us over 85% of Anglicans world wide support the traditional interpretation of scripture. A minority has pushed this issue to the breaking point. I expect the 15% will be on their own soon - God help them.
Gay christian = no such animal.
Ah, the Church of England. Can you truly expect morality from a church founded solely to allow a corrupt monarch to violate scripture and divorce his wife?
yes i know, i just put in the “final descent” as it was shorter.
Its always the same with the liberal progressive...
THEY get to decide what sin is or is not regardless of what God says.
THEY get to tell all Christians how to be Christians when they deny the God of Christianity
THEY get to frame up all those standing against them as acting very “un-Christian!”
No...THEY do NOT!
I will not suffer one more lie from them nor tolerate their moral and Christian wrongs just so they can complete their selfish demands on the rest of us.
“Can you truly expect morality from a church founded solely to allow a corrupt monarch to violate scripture and divorce his wife?”
well, God has created even the wicked for his purposes.
I took my mother there as she hadn't been to a service since she left college.
Okay, but what does that have to do with the way the church operates? My point was that the church was founded with evil intentions and these people are merely continuing the tradition. Evil begets more evil.
Truthphobes.
1) People would call Evil Good and Good Evil?
2) That men would become "lovers of themselves" (homosexual)?
3) That knowledge ("science"--look at the etymology of the word, which they didn't use at that time) would increase in the latter days?
4) That travel would increase in the latter days?
5) That Israel would be re-established in the latter days, pulled out from many nations?
6) Etc. I could go on. Too many prophecies have come to fulfillment, I think we have proof enough at this point. If people don't want to open their eyes, they're never going to.
Back to Mordor.
