Wheaton College is stirring up an old debate this week thatâs worth revisiting. Professor Larycia Hawkins, in an effort to show solidarity with Muslims, decided to wear a hijab during advent. While wearing a hijab may have been tolerated by the school, what she said about the relationship between Islam and Christianity, was not. She wrote:
âI stand in religious solidarity with Muslims because they, like me, a Christian, are people of the book. And as Pope Francis stated last week, we worship the same God.â
For the crime of saying, âwe worship the same Godâ Hawkins was suspended from school. Once news of this broke, the Evangelical Machine⢠went into over-drive to celebrate the decision. Bloggers quickly weighed in with approval, and it certainly caught the eye of my brother-from-a-TOTALLY-different-mother, Franklin Graham, who said âshame on her!â for wearing a hijab (as if a head covering is some mortal sin), and continued to say she was âabsolutely wrongâ that we worshipped the same God.
In light of what will be ongoing conversations about Islam in America, the issue of God v. Allah is a critical one to have.

No.
To a certain degree, I believe many Christians worship a diiferent God and a Jesus from one another.
God is not the same as Satan
Did you READ the article?
How could He be the same God when one religion worships Jesus as Savior and Son of God, and the other demotes him to lieutenant beneath a murdering pedophile?
God doesn’t contradict Himself.
The Bible is clear, if you don’t believe in the Son, you do not have the Father.
Muslims reject the Trinity and make Jesus into a human “prophet”. They are liars according to God.
There is only one true God, and He has revealed Himself as three distinct coequal persons.
Anyone who rejects the Trinity, does not worship God.
Period.
Muslims believe Jesus avoided crucifiction by “magically” stepping out of the cross, which not only is completely against what Jesus preached, but exactly what the robber on his left went to hell for, wishing exactly that.
This is not even a hard question.
Allah = satin, lucifer, the devil
The God of Abraham is the one true God. He is a triune God with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Allah = evil. One just has to read a little of each: The Bible and the koran and the truth is clear and it is clear fast.
"For example, plenty of Christian traditions describe a God I have a hard time recognizing. I even find some of the ways they describe his attributes to be offensive. "
Is that right.
No. “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me.”(Period!)- Jesus of Nazareth
Based upon the Old and New Testaments, the ‘god’ of the Koran is a complete opposite. I can, in no way, see that our God as Jews and Christians is the same ‘god’ of Mohammed.
They seem incapable of understanding that with all His powers that God could come in weak vulnerable flesh and demonstrate that all behaved much differently than when He was all powerful and all were afraid. Only those recognizing God in Jesus, worshiping Him instead of spitting at Him for being in human flesh, are the chosen ones. Muslims simply do not get it.
Do Muslims worship the God of the Bible ?
Reason I ask is because I don't remember anyplace in the Ten Commandments that it says, "Thou must behead they neighbor."
Muslims use the term “people of the book” to refer to Jews and Christians.
Historically incorrect statement. The crescent moon gives a clue. Allah is derived from the ancient moon God of Arabia. Allah is not the God of Abraham.
N and O,
I read the piece a few days ago. The writer is simply wrong, which isn’t surprising since he self-identifies as a “progressive Christian” and writes for Patheos, the multi-faith mishmash.
The Scriptures answer this question rather clearly:
“No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.”
—1 John 2:23 (ESV)
“Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.”
—1 John 2:23 (KJV)
Muslims deny the Son ergo they do not have the Father. Theirs is another god, a false god. And Satan is behind all false gods and false religions.
It’s wrong for Christians to affirm any pagan in his idolatry. The loving (i.e. Christian) thing to do is tell them the truth, even if they don’t like it. The thing is, I don’t encounter Muslims running around claiming the Christian God. What I see are people who claim to be Christians proclaiming the false god of Islam to be the Christian God of the Holy Bible.
The crescent moon is reflective of the ‘god’ chosen by Mohammad, one of a pantheon worshiped at the time. There are indications that “Allah” can be traced back to Baal, given the worship, etc
