Well, I guess Peter and Paul are in big trouble with the pope.
I just skimmed the Italian text of the statement by Cardinal Koch delivered at the press conference where this so-called statement was made public.
According to Card. Koch, this document should not be understood as a vehicle of the teaching office of the Catholic Church (the “Magisterium”), but instead be used as a working document that inspires further discussion between Catholics and Jews.
Specifically, Card. Koch says, “Il documento non vuole dunque presentare affermazioni dottrinali definitive” (”therefore the document does not intend to present definitive doctrinal affirmations”).
So I caution respondents here to not read too much into this.
It’s not an argument, it’s an explanation.
What changed is that the Church has, for right or for wrong, decided to change it’s approach from an organizational perspective. The statement doesn’t appear to preclude individual efforts though.
Bergoglio has already officially spoken so: in Laudato Si, he slipped it in.
So you admit the Church has “changed”?
convert muslims?!?!
just turn the other neck.
Jews are the problem in the same sense that all other religions besides Christianity is wrong.
Ideally they would all convert.
The Vatican is only saying don’t TARGET Jews. It is not saying don’t convert them. I really wish people would learn to read. I also think we SHOULD TARGET Jews - and every other person on the planet. Christ is for everyone.
Sure. This represents a change of official policy.
Communque, dobbiamo lasciare le ebbreici a mangiare ‘gefilte fish’
According to Francis we are now:
one holy,
catholic, and
apologetic Church
The Vatican has lost track of it’s mission.
da soli.
“Jews are the problem in the same sense that all other religions besides Christianity is wrong.
Ideally they would all convert.”
Get out of your cave very often?
As a Jew I’ll let G*d judge me, not you.
Turkey bacon is just fine, and Jews thank the Pope for this decision. I understand Christians feel differently but we are just fine being Jews. We love you Christians of all kinds. But we’re good, thanks.
Judaism does NOT teach that a Jew becoming a Christian is not a Jew. A Jew stays a Jew, to us.
I love being Jewish and I love not having any pressure to convert people to my way of life. We are taught that everyone’s way of life is fine for THEM though we do feel a monotheistic life is the truth. We are allowed to believe that Christianity is right for Christians.
so the pope hates Jews and wants to be sure they never hear the Gospel? Sharing the Gospel is an act of love not hate.
That's not true at all. All of the first Christians were Jews. Paul after he became a Christian still considered himself a Jew. Of the tribe of Benjamin. Messianic Jews consider themselves Jewish Christians. Jesus was a Jewish Christian.
