Conscience is King! And Ignorance is Bliss!

Chicago’s Windy City Prelate Blase Cupich divines that the conscience is inviolable and reigns supreme in all things theological.

In an interview with the National Catholic Register’s Edward Pentin, Archbishop Cupich, the personal appointment of Pope Francis to the Family Synod said when it comes to giving holy Communion to civilly remarried divorcees, people need to “come to a decision in good conscience” and that the Church’s job is to “help them move forward and to respect that.”

“Conscience is inviolable,” the archbishop told the Vatican press reporters, “and we have to respect that when making decisions and I’ve always done that.”

But he added that “at the same time,” his role as a pastor is to help them “through a period of discernment, to understand what God is calling them to at that point, so it’s for everybody.”

Whatever that means? But there’s more gobbledegook.

“We have to be sure we don’t pigeonhole one group as though they’re not part of the human family, as though there’s a different set of rules for them,” he said. “That would be a big mistake.”

Ah, yes, mull over this shallow theological reasoning from Deepak Cupich.

Ignorance is Bliss

So, now that the Archbishop has elevated conscience above church teaching, Pentin inquired what does he think about the personal papal appointment and inclusion of a Cardinal who was caught on tape trying to conceal clergy sex abuse and urging the male victim to seek forgiveness from his bishop/uncle abuser?

Cupich conveniently responded by aptly demonstrating the problem of an ill-informed conscience: “I don’t know anything about that, about how he was chosen or anything you’ve mentioned about his past. I don’t know anything about that.”

Hmmm. Do you see how convenient and forgetful an ill formed conscience can be? So, are Catholics to believe that Archbishop Cupich, a papal Synodal appointment, is unaware of the screaming headlines and stories surrounding another papal Synodal appointment, Belgian Cardinal Danneels, who was caught on tape covering up child sex abuse by one of his Belgian bishops? Does Cupich really expect us to believe he “doesn’t know anything about that”? Shouldn’t the protection of children and knowledge of predators be uppermost in the formation of a prelate’s conscience?

Godfried Cardinal Danneels reigns as the prelate poster boy for clergy sex abuse coverup. His appointment to the Family Synod by Pope Francis is an affront to families, children, and the propagation of the faith and makes a mockery of the Synod on the Family. It’s a testament to the priorities of this Synod with the Pope personally selecting and appointing his conclave political cronies to the serious work of families.

What possible value or insight could Cardinal Danneels provide a Synod on families? Sit down and read this gut retching report on how Danneels treats Catholic children and their families.

Read it and weep.

The damage done by Danneels to the faith of Catholic families and the innocence of children in Belgium is incalculable. Yet, his appointment by Francis speaks volumes about the underlying modernist ideological agenda of the Family Synod and the priorities of this papacy.

This is the Synod on the Family but with Danneels, Cupich, and the German Bishops its sounding more like the Synod on the Homosexuals.

There lies the lie. A reprobate mind's conscience is either severely warped or missing altogether.

Sounds like the Pope and some of the Cardinals want to adopt the Baptist idea that each person is his own interpreter of scripture. If so, what is the point of having a Pope? or bishops?
