She explained, “Women are being attacked at a moral level by the radical Religious Right. They’ve hijacked the political discussion. This event is an opportunity for progressive religious leaders to stop the silence. We need to be in the conversation.”...The abortion reverend heads up a group called the Ohio Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice,...

Still not true of Methodism. The United Methodist Church is still the 2nd largest Protestant denomination in the USA behind Southern Baptist...2013 numbers.

It is true, though, that it’s dying. It’s membership is primarily over 55 and some forecasts have it irrelevant in 2050. In Africa, however, it is growing, AND it is quite conservative.

For the most part, the UMC taxing rules tend to have most congregations desire to be their attendance size and not some larger, more prestigious size. Membership is a major factor is paying the denominational, conference, and district taxes (called ‘apportionments’.)

It is so true. I was a Methodist raised. I took my family out because they went liberal politics real bad. In my town looking at the average congregational age— in 15 years they will down to nothing.

It is like a franchise. It is all about the 10% royalty paid to the Franchisor and real estate ownership. I see little redemption in these franchises.

I agree wholeheartedly with your 24 & 25.

That said, the UMC policy on abortion allows these so-called ministers to make these outrageous statements in support of abortion with impunity.

Our official policy on homosexuality would cause them some blowback (but not much), because we officially oppose homosexuality.

I will point out that I pastor a small, rural Methodist church and that they are far removed from the national body. There is still some light in this denomination, so I suppose that’s why the Lord let’s it continue to survive for a bit longer.

Well, God Bless you Pastor. I have many views on the “church” , one of which was there was no “Church” until circa 1611. It was Ekklesia. Ekklesia means — “The called out”,i.e. believers ( as am one in Christ) ). KJV went to “Church” after “circe” or “kirke” which was the pagan gathering ( circle). THAT WAS NOT THE MEANING OF THE “WORD OF gOD”
As such, I view the “franchise” operations as businesses.
The good news is that you and are are saved if we accept Jesus as the Son of God. That is all it takes ( John 3:16-18).
We will all find that out.

Because the groupthink about Abortion is that it is a fundamental human right and countless people will die without an abortion, sound familiar?

“Why is it that the gay community is 95% pro abortion?”

Because support of both homosexual behavior and abortions entail the support of the complete separation of the procreative aspect from the marital act. Also, both homosexuality and abortions end in death so it’s ultimately an anti-life union.

Etymology[edit] From late Proto-Germanic *kirikǭ (whence also Old Frisian tzirke, Old Saxon and Old Dutch kirika, Old High German chirihha), from Byzantine Greek κυριακόν ‎(kuriakón) (δόμα) ‘Lord's (house)’, from Ancient Greek κύριος ‎(kúrios, “lord”).

I like the original writers actual words ( God Breathed- right?) and the pure definition. For example SHEOL in Hebrew was translated in Greek to "Hades". Hades means what Sheol means. Sheol means “grave’ or “pit’. No inference at all of an eternal life in a lake of fire. Jesus used "Gehenna", which was the city dump. No eternal life there. Interesting to get away from the "Church" narratives with actual translations./p>

Sounds like they lost the “Jesus guiding method” of Methodist Christianity and ‘found’ the secular humanist method to replace Him.

Yes, they have replaced Jesus. I pity them.

One of many reasons why the Catholic Church does not (actually cannot) ordain women to the priesthood. Our pro-life groups, often accompanied by priests and even bishops, surround an abortion clinic and offer up prayers for the victims and their families. Ugh ... how sad that anyone who ‘claims’ to be a christian, much less a minister, could go so far as to bless an abortion clinic.

My heart has broken for this denomination, but God has me decided to go elsewhere if they cross the homosexualism line.

I’ll probably go either Orthodox or evangelical Calvary Chapel or independent.

I’ve seen too many Christians in the middle east NOT deny Jesus, so I’m very impressed with their faith and perseverance even unto death. If Methodists are Pergamum or Thyatira, then the Orthodox are Smyrna.

The freedom of faith and practice within Biblical bounds has always impressed me with the independent evangelicals. If we are Pergamum, then they are Philadelphia.

These people don't believe in either scripture or tradition.
