‘I am a gay priest who is happy': Vatican official fired after coming out on eve of Church conf.
Washington Post ^ | 10/04/2015 | By Sarah Kaplan

On Saturday evening, as hundreds of bishops convened in Rome for a major church assembly on family issues, former Vatican priest Krzysztof Charamsa headed a mile across town to a different gathering: the founding meeting of the Global Network of Rainbow Catholics, a group of 13 organizations advocating for inclusion of gays in the church.

Charamsa had lost his job just before, when he was fired from his position in the Vatican’s doctrine office after announcing that he was gay and introducing reporters to his boyfriend.

“I want the Church and my community to know who I am: a gay priest who is happy, and proud of his identity,” he told the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published Saturday. “I’m prepared to pay the consequences, but it’s time the Church opened its eyes, and realized that offering gay believers total abstinence from a life of love is inhuman.”

The priest’s announcement came just 24 hours before the start of Pope Francis’s month-long synod on the family, which will discuss marriage, divorce and same-sex relationships.

Vatican officials bristled at the timing of Charamsa’s announcement, which spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi called “very serious and irresponsible, since it aims to subject the Synod assembly to undue media pressure.”

But the eyes of the media and the world likely would have been on the meeting anyway, since news emerged last week that the pope spoke with both Kentucky clerk Kim Davis (who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage license to same-sex couples) and a gay former student and his partner during his visit to the U.S. Observers within and outside the church have exhaustively dissected the details of those meetings in search of clues as to Francis’s plans for the synod.

Is he also advocating that Priests should be allowed to marry?

He got fired — and I’m happy.

Not so fast. He got removed from his post in the Vatican because he embarrassed them by timing the "reveal" of his violation of his vows to coincide with a conference which will be taking on the issue of gays.

But today he's still a priest even as he is cohabitating with another man in open violations of his vow of celibacy.

DING! DING! DING!

We have a winner! The LGBTMNOPQRS groups are not about “fairness” or anything remotely close to it.

They are about demanding ACCEPTANCE for their actions! This would be no different than a murderer saying, “Sure I murder people, but hey, you know you have thought about it, which makes you the same as me, only I’m brave and honest. So, stop judging me and let’s move on and destroy another pillar of American society!”

He took a vow of chastity, and appears to have broken it.

You misspelled ENDORSEMENT there, chief

RE: Is he also advocating that Priests should be allowed to marry?

That I hear, is under intense study and discussion.

Historically, during the first few centuries of the church, there was no such prohibition.

He worked in the Vatican’s doctrine office. For that reason, he must have been one of the brightest minds, anyway exceeded many others in knowledge. Therefore, his consciousness of doing evil is VERY high and, to my way of thinking, he did all on purpose, and all those naive explanations is nothing but a cynical game.

Anyway, this is my viewpoint and I do not dare to judge. It is Almighty God himself who will judge accordingly.

Typical, self-centered, narcissistic homosexual. He entered the priesthood, knowing full-well what the Catholic Church believed and taught. He took sacred vows in that regard. He is absolutely free to leave priesthood any time - he is not a prisoner. There are 1000 other careers he could take.

And yet he stays, in an attempt to embarrass the Church and to complain about Christian doctrine that has existed for 2000 years (and another 2000+ in the preceding Hebrew tradition as well)

RE: Maybe the church should ban all sinners. /s

The church SHOULD ban from having fellowship with those who openly and defiantly sin and practice immorality ( 1 Corinthians 5:1-13)

Interesting comment. I used to listen to G. Gorgon Liddy on DC101 FM here in D.C. and he had a very compelling argument about that. He is Catholic, and he said that there was an intense push in the 50’s and 60’s to increase the enrollment in the Seminary. The Church had lost so many Priests and Religious in WWII that they wanted to rebuild the Church as fast as possible and they were taking pretty much anyone who showed up at first. Unfortunately, that allowed not only practicing gays but also the molesting deviants to gain access.

Was he fired, or just removed from his post? That is, is he still a priest?

“I want the Church and my community to know who I am: a gay priest who is happy, and proud of his identity,”

Yeah, well, being a happy, gay priest, you probably know what the Bible says about pride, right?

If not, here's the quote from Proverbs 16:18 you might want to consider:

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

According to Proverbs 16:18, "Gay Pride" sounds rather suicidal, but saying that you're a happy and proudly gay priest makes you sound insane, almost demonically insane for publicly defying Proverbs.

Good luck with that!

I sin, but I am happy.

Sounds like unrepentance to me.

Once a Priest always a Priest. The Church can admit they made a mistake in making him one, but they can’t take it back.

If that happened, I’d be out of luck.

“But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. “

Why are you selectively using this verse?
