You are not alone in your thinking.
He told us how bad we are, and then flew back to his private palace in his private country. I am not impressed.
The first paragraph in this comment is just as off the mark as your earlier comment. The pope has a chronic and acute habit of making off the cuff remarks of his own making - not inspired by God — and not in any sense infallible or even authoritative and definitely not part of the Magisterium.
Your Il Papa is a disaster.
Are you saying that it is not the Popes job to interpret the word of God? Whose job is it then? Is it the duty of every priest to interpret it how they see fit? That would completely split the church. It is the Pope that does this. His views are to be an expression of the ENTIRE Catholic church. You may not want to believe it, but that is how it works. Always has.
His comments may be off your “cuff”, but in terms of the Bible, the Pope is not incorrect. He feels that it is the duty, of those able, to help those who are unable to help themselves. He is against abortion because the Bible says it is wrong. He is against homosexuality because the Bible says it’s wrong, but he will NOT condemn homosexuals, because the Bible says that’s not his job. His views on climate change are not made from a scientific stand point, but instead makes it a point that people need to take care of the earth in order for other generation to cherish it as should be (what is so wrong about that?). True, he is unlike other Popes because he expresses the views that the church should take. I’m not so sure that this is a bad thing. As I said before, he only wants to help people. He doesn’t want to be the type of Pope you only see on Easter. He wants to create a more vocal catholic church in order to bring more people back to the faith.
So was JPII.
Eschatology is the unseen force in Islam, as it is in the RCC. In the latter’s case, it is Amillennialism, the belief that the millennial kingdom of Christ, Rev. 20, is here now on earth, and has been since the fall of Jerusalem (70AD) and Constantine, the Papacy is supposed to in control of this amillennial kingdom.
In tandem with European monarchs, they ruled Europe for over a thousand years, but for Sola Scriptura and the Protestant rebellion, they still would be.
It appears to me, that this Pope sees himself as the tool to bring that power back to Rome...through the mechanism of global socialism. He, himself, being an Argentinian Marxist.
At the root of all this is Amillennialism, as false a doctrine as has ever entered the mind of man.
I take it you're not Catholic? The pope can NOT reinterpret the Word; and as such, can NOT interpret the Word. You seem to confuse the Deposit of Faith with a man, the Pope. All men are fallen, faith in the Church that will prevail against Satan is faith in the Deposit of Faith, NOT faith in a man. There have been good and bad Popes, the Church remains.
As a catholic woman, I had an eerie feeling when he became pope. The feeling gets worse each and every time he does or says something.
Are you frigging serious??
You feel this way on FR because most of them think Catholics suck! Congrats! Feel Good?
Exactly.
"The teaching of the Faith which God has revealed has not been proposed as a philosophical discovery to be perfected by human ingenuity, but as a divine Deposit handed over to the Spouse of Christ to be guarded faithfully and to be explained infallibly. Hence that meaning of the sacred dogmas must perpetually be retained which Holy Mother Church once has declared; nor is that meaning ever to be abandoned under the pretext and name of a more profound comprehension." - First Vatican Council
