The first paragraph in this comment is just as off the mark as your earlier comment. The pope has a chronic and acute habit of making off the cuff remarks of his own making - not inspired by God — and not in any sense infallible or even authoritative and definitely not part of the Magisterium.
Are you saying that it is not the Popes job to interpret the word of God? Whose job is it then? Is it the duty of every priest to interpret it how they see fit? That would completely split the church. It is the Pope that does this. His views are to be an expression of the ENTIRE Catholic church. You may not want to believe it, but that is how it works. Always has.
His comments may be off your “cuff”, but in terms of the Bible, the Pope is not incorrect. He feels that it is the duty, of those able, to help those who are unable to help themselves. He is against abortion because the Bible says it is wrong. He is against homosexuality because the Bible says it’s wrong, but he will NOT condemn homosexuals, because the Bible says that’s not his job. His views on climate change are not made from a scientific stand point, but instead makes it a point that people need to take care of the earth in order for other generation to cherish it as should be (what is so wrong about that?). True, he is unlike other Popes because he expresses the views that the church should take. I’m not so sure that this is a bad thing. As I said before, he only wants to help people. He doesn’t want to be the type of Pope you only see on Easter. He wants to create a more vocal catholic church in order to bring more people back to the faith.
