“...An article of the of the apostolic constitution Universi Dominici Gregis, which regulates papal elections, has established that cardinals before the election shall further abstain from any form of pact, agreement, promise or other commitment of any kind which could oblige them to give or deny their vote to a person or persons.
The conclave rules in the apostolic constitution, issued by St. John Paul II in 1996, stressed that automatic excommunication is incurred by cardinals who commit to an electoral agreement for a papal conclave...”

Egad!
Goodfellas.
Wow.
It has always been clear (at least to me, and I'm not even Catholic) that Benedict XVI was forced out.
Conspiracy theorists can have a field day about the forces at play, but the old predictions that the antiCHRIST would be a Pope don't seem nearly as far-fetched as they once did.
From Yes Prime Minister (The Bishop’s Gambit)
James Hacker: Humphrey, what’s a Modernist in the Church of England?
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Ah, well, the word “Modernist” is code for non-believer.
James Hacker: You mean an atheist?
Sir Humphrey Appleby: No, Prime Minister. An atheist clergyman couldn’t continue to draw his stipend. So, when they stop believing in God, they call themselves “Modernists”.
James Hacker: How could the Church of England suggest an atheist as Bishop of Bury St Edmunds?
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Well, very easily. The Church of England is primarily a social organization, not a religious one.
James Hacker: Is it?
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Oh yes. It’s part of the rich social fabric of this country. So bishops need to be the sorts of chaps who speak properly and know which knife and fork to use. The sort of people one can look up to.
You guys certainly have a 'cloak and daggers' type drama with your headshed.
Is this The blog for Dallas area Catholics?
If so, I’m convinced!
Ann Barnhardt generally concurs:
Why am I *not* surprised?
If true, and I have serious reservations when I read things like this, but if true the "modernists" sure got what they wanted via Francis didn't they?
It certainly explains Francis' political alignment with Barack Obama while here in the US and it damn' sure explains why Francis hasn't spoken one word about Christian persecution (read that: beheadding) in the Middle East while here either.
