Welcome to the exciting new world of the slippery slope. With the Supreme Courts landmark ruling this Friday legalizing same sex marriage in all 50 states, social liberalism has achieved one of its central goals. A right seemingly unthinkable two decades ago has now been broadly applied to a whole new class of citizens. Following on the rejection of interracial marriage bans in the 20th Century, the Supreme Court decision clearly shows that marriage should be a broadly applicable rightone that forces the government to recognize, as Fridays decision said, a private couples love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family.
The question presents itself: Where does the next advance come? The answer is going to make nearly everyone uncomfortable: Now that weve defined that love and devotion and family isnt driven by gender alone, why should it be limited to just two individuals? The most natural advance next for marriage lies in legalized polygamyyet many of the same people who pressed for marriage equality for gay couples oppose it.
This is not an abstract issue. In Chief Justice John Roberts dissenting opinion, he remarks, It is striking how much of the majoritys reasoning would apply with equal force to the claim of a fundamental right to plural marriage. As is often the case with critics of polygamy, he neglects to mention why this is a fate to be feared. Polygamy today stands as a taboo just as strong as same-sex marriage was several decades agoits effectively only discussed as outdated jokes about Utah and Mormons, who banned the practice over 120 years ago.

Lowering the age of consent to TEN YEARS OLD makes it easier for Pedophiles to get away with the crime. Would you want your child to be a target?
Comparisons to laws restricting marriage between differing races are groundless. Laws banning interracial marriage did not touch the definition of marriage; unlike this decree which does. Those laws were/are an equal protection violation, not a fundamental redefinition.

Was it a ruling, an opinion or did they make law ?
Polygamy, because they can’t ALL have a headache.
Door #3 - “make law”
Congress “makes law”, not the USSC
Ding Ding Ding!
Prospective female: "When I found out Jason only had two wives, I knew he was the one for me ..."
The age of consent used to be much lower in the country than it is now.
12-16 was normal.
It’s 12 now in Mexico, and 14 in Canada.
It’s still allowable in many states at a young age with parental consent....that’s rather odd actually! i.e. You can marry in many states at a very young age with parental consent.
That said, the idea of some 40 something creep lurking around young girls gives me the effing creeps!

Your graphic abilities are needed!
Of course this is coming. And then someday a guy will get to marry his goat.
An argument used against the idea of marrying a goat is that the goat cannot give consent. But that is looking at it from a sexist perspective. What if the goat comes on to a woman? I would think that such action would mean that consent by the goat was given. He made the first move.
Then it gets more interesting. If a woman can marry her goat, why can’t a man marry his female goat? Why can’t a homosexual man marry his male goat? Once marriage has been redefined, the definition will logically keep expanding.
It is indeed a slippery slope!
And the absurd example you give only slightly exaggerated....
We are taught that payback for things we do.. is often postponed to the Next World
but
Dad told us
that any guy who lives with six or seven women all at once
is surely suffering the payback for his behavior... in this life
The Muslims will want the age of consent changed to 9 years old. Since the marriage laws of Kentucky are apparently null and void, maybe someone will go there and try it.
Didn’t bother Mahomet.
good point.
maybe we should become Islamics?
:)
just thinking, maybe Mo managed his harem successfully because he built little apartments (huts) for each of them, (adjoining his mosque)
so they weren’t all literally ‘under one roof’
keeping them somewhat separate may be how it can work?
give it a try and report back to us???
When a large group of women lives together, their “cycles” tend to synchronize. Imagine a whole harem getting PMS at once. God have mercy on the poor husband.
