VATICAN CITY On a sunny morning earlier this year, a camera crew entered a well-appointed apartment just outside the 9th-century gates of Vatican City. Pristinely dressed in the black robes and scarlet sash of the princes of the Roman Catholic Church, Wisconsin-born Cardinal Raymond Burke sat in his elaborately upholstered armchair and appeared to issue a warning to Pope Francis.
A staunch conservative and Vatican bureaucrat, Burke had been demoted by the pope a few months earlier, but it did not take the fight out of him. Francis had been backing a more inclusive era, giving space to progressive voices on divorced Catholics as well as gays and lesbians. In front of the camera, Burke said he would resist liberal changes and seemed to caution Francis about the limits of his authority. One must be very attentive regarding the power of the pope, Burke told the French news crew.
Papal power, Burke warned, is not absolute. He added, The pope does not have the power to change teaching [or] doctrine.
Burkes words belied a growing sense of alarm among strict conservatives, exposing what is fast emerging as a culture war over Franciss papacy and the powerful hierarchy that governs the Roman Catholic Church.

“The times,they are a’changing.”
This is a good thing. Frankie has got to go. The world needs a real Pope, not just another liberal politician/environmental wacko. We’ve already got too many of those.
Bump! That’ll be enough to tick off the Pope!
no bias there ...
Washington Post is an objective news service.
Francis is to the Vatican as Obama is to the U.S. - an outsider intent on destroying it.
Yup. An anti-Pope. Not good.
> Francis is to the Vatican as Obama is to the U.S. - an outsider intent on destroying it.
But they will stay right right where they are because God allowed them to be part of Revelation. He is allowing the world to see what evil truly is in its most pure form when men stray from his commands and think of themselves as gods. He will show ALL of mankind why evil must be destroyed. IMHO
I hope it is a nice IPA!
BTTT!
If the Pope is like our Obama,
Cardinal Burke is our Ted Cruz.
Look for him to step down when he turns 80.
As I’ve noted in these pages before, I know from Jesuits. I attended one of their universities in the 70’s and 80’s, and sent my son to one of their high schools in recent years after first politically up-armoring him all his life. In my experience, all but to a man, they’re just knee jerk standard-issue left wing hacks. Alas, the pope is just in the same mold.
It is just too hard for these guys to walk in John Paul II’s footsteps. They’d much rather crawl around behind the liberal Marxist thieves as the Marxists steal money from the working people.
Pope Francis said his time as Pope will be a short one.
Pope Che!
