I applaud Sen. Sanders for having the courage (unlike other high-profile Democrats) to accept an invitation to speak at a conservative university.
I’m also willing to bet that you won’t see a subset of conservative students trying to shout him down during his speech - in fact I even doubt they will boo. The leftists at most other colleges should follow Sen. Sanders lead:
“...Liberty University was kind enough to invite me to address a convocation and I decided to accept,” Sanders said in a statement. “It goes without saying that my views on many issues — women’s rights, gay rights, education and many other issues — are very different from the opinions of some in the Liberty University community. It is very easy for a candidate to speak to people who hold the same views. It’s harder but important to reach out to others who look at the world differently. I look forward to meeting with the students and faculty of Liberty University.”
Well said, Sen. Sanders, and also an admirable trait that at one time in this country was more true of those on the left than on the right. Perhaps you can help change that, and restore sanity and civility to the political left.
