“Mortal sin”? Chapter and verse, please.
God does not have a hierarchy of sins. More made-up stuff.
Thye answer is .... ASK ... Romans 10:13ff
If they are going to make up a hierarchy of sins, I think they should at least snazz it up a bit. Maybe add a point system, so a little tiny sin only costs 1 point, but a really bad sin is 20 points, something like that. Then people could keep track of their “sin allowance”, and say, rack up 10 points of sins before they have to hit the confessional.
Plus, I could market a SinTracker app and make a nice buck!
Sin is sin to God, it’s all evil.
Well, gosh, you have a point. Jimmy Akin may be just about the only person left in the Catholic faith that still uses the term “mortal” sin.
On the other hand, for the sake of assessing one’s state of grace, it’s not hard to understand that, for example, there is a difference between, say, adultery and driving 5 MPH over the speed limit.
“

I would be cautious about that presumption.

That’s a Protestant site that provides many examples. You already know the Cathloic position, and Jesus himself told Pilate:
“When Jesus was on trial before Pilate, he said: He who delivers me unto you has the greater sin “(John 19:11).
Greater implies a higher severity in the eyes of God. You are, of course, free to rely on your own wisdom in this matter. For me, I will take the word of our Lord and Savior.
