Actually we can’t. Our nation has a church on just about every street and most of them are busy being relevant, seeker-friendly, inclusive, reconciling, fun, comfortable. The coffee is first rate. We don’t judge (lest ye be judged—the most misused verse in the bible).
The pastors are more worried about their retirement plans than their flock. Threaten the tax exempt status and the church shuts up. The Big Giver is the new apostle. The new family gets to choose what is gospel and what gets discarded.
If the bulb burns out in the projector and people have to break out a hymnal, they complain, “I give all this money and they can’t even keep the projector working!” Yes, They. The Consumer Christian is paying for a service and he expects DisneyWorld perfection but without the lines.
But, the next few years will strip away the Christian facade from most Americans just as the 75 years of Soviet communism did in Russia. Some will stay the course. Most will slip deeper into their Moral Therapeutic Deism or will simply devolve into pure Humanism or Martial Arts Dojo Buddhism.
It was all forewarned, so it shouldn’t be a surprise.
It's not really a testament to how moral the USSR Russia is, it's a testament to how far the USA has morally fallen.
