If we close our doors to sinners then we all better stay home. I happily serve as pastor of a church that includes among its members former homosexuals and those who struggle faithfully against same-sex attraction. We have former adulterers, former gamblers, former self-righteous religionists, former racists, former drunkards, former gluttons, etc. You name a sin and youll probably find a former practitioner in our church. Every week I get to stand and preach before this gloriously redeemed collection of formers.
"As Christians we are merely beggars telling others where we've found bread" - Martin Luther (paraphrased)
If we don’t tell them the truth, who will?
"It is not the healthy that need a doctor but the sick." It should be our prayer that every evangelical church in America be overflowing with sinners every Sunday where they hear the Gospel which will lead them from their wickedness. I would also pray the everyone in the church building, whether engaged in riotous living or not, be aware that the Gospel message is for everyone - we are all sinners in need of the Savior.
