Why are Americans being forced to consider homosexual acts as morally acceptable? Why has the US Supreme Court accepted the validity of same-sex marriage, which, until a decade ago, was unheard of in the history of Western or any other civilization? Where has the gay rights movement come from, and how has it so easily conquered America?
This is a recording of two lectures given on 7/9 and 7/16 at St Mary of the Sorrows Catholic Church in Fairfax, VA. It examines, from an Aristotelean perspective, the philosophical shortcomings of the culture that led to the insanity of the Obergefell SCOTUS decision.
Despite the lectures being presented from a Aristotelean philosophical point of view, they are both engaging and highly entertaining.
Why do the priests at our church preach “times are changing” and we “must offer the sign of peace to those sitting next to you in the pew because we do not know how they have been insulted throughout their lives”?
Then we let a letter from the Pastor remining us that “Catholics are free to marry anyone.” True, it was written in the context of whether a Caholic could marry a Jew, Protestant, or Muslim — but it was written 2 weeks after the infamous SCOTUS decision. Is there another message lurking between the lines?
Nothing from our Bishop, as yet.
Crickets.
Looks like He's worked His way down to the churches on His list!
I think part of it is how liberals frame every issue as one of hatred if you oppose the liberal view of something.
Examples.
1. If you oppose affirmative action, you are a racist.
2. If you oppose illegal immigration amnesty, you are a bigot and xenophobic, and not honoring our history as a nation of immigrants.
3. If you oppose abortion on demand as espoused by the loudest liberal voices, you hate women; you are part of the war on women.
4. If you oppose the whole global warming thing, you are in favor of all of us drowning and being destroyed when sea levels rise and all that.
5. If you think that much terrorism and mayhem is committed by Muslims, you are Islamophobic. And you don’t understand that Islam is a religion of peace.
6. If you oppose gun control, you are aiding and abetting massacres in churches and movie theaters and schools.
7. And, tied in with that reasoning, if you oppose homosexual marriage, then you hate homosexuals.
I think that liberals esp. with their control of the media and entertainment, have so ingrained the messages that you hate someone or something if you don’t support the liberal view, that people become intimidated and afraid to say they oppose the liberals, for fear of being called racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.
I don’t have 3 hours to watch the videos, but do have a simple theory as to the “How?” of the title: the progressive anomie of the pagan world explained by Paul in Romans 1, beginning with the refusal to acknowledge the God who can be plainly seen “through what has been made”.
This progressive downfall happens in God’s timing and according to his mercy and patience. You might say we’ve sorely tested him by deciding to divorce in mass numbers, remarry (and marry, and marry), fornicate (this increases as pride of family insists their children get a PhD. before marrying and bearing children), make prodigious use of the Pill, condorms and abortion (the smoke & mirrors & sticky tape of the Sexual Revolution), etc.
He in turn obliges our rebellion by “giving [us] over”. We are in deep trouble as a society, FRiends, but it isn’t BECAUSE of homosexuals. We’re being visited with increased homosexuality BECAUSE of everything that came BEFORE.
Romans 1.
Time America wakes up—we are being played by a small cabal with money and media power. We are being taken for a ride. But, worry not, the Liberal reigh is about over.
Hope so! Thanks for the encouragement.
“Nothing from our Bishop, as yet.”
Maybe you should consider changing churches. The US Conference of Catholic Bishops, along with 110 (at last count) Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals have called the SCOTUS ruling a “tragic error” and have condemned it.
I know. I’m going to talk to our Pastor first. I’m hoping that he corrects himself and his young assistant before then.
Thank you for the link. Reilly is correct. Moral Weaknesses of everyone has led to the changing of traditional laws. Directors in Hollywood who mess around on their wives will wink at editors who look at pornography, actors who mess around with homosexual clubs, and kids who mess around before marriage. As a result, all unethical people want to hide their guilty consciences and show their “coolness”, “open mindedness,” and “inclusiveness.”
Vice will win if we focus on whether marriage is simply a federal or state problem.
Virtue will win if we focus on whether marriage preserves both true love and fertility for women and security for children.
Reilly also makes the good analogy. We don’t have an Alcoholism Parade, since there are no genetic causes of alcoholism. Similarly, we should not have Homosexual Parade, since their is not genetic causes of such vice. We all have the responsibility to increase virtue and decrease vice.
If a person is alcoholic, then don’t drink.
If a person is gay, then don’t follow same sex attractions.
If a person gambles too much and drives too fast, then drive slowly away from Las Vegas.
Discipline is simple for good people but intimidating for bad people.
Excellent list.
If you reject a rule in the liberal playbook, then you are not liberal or cool
House of cards: if you don’t agree with me, then you disagree with me and cause division and unhappiness.
Solution: Find agreements.
I'd encourage you to check out the other lecture series they have on their site or, if you are anywhere near, to perhaps go attend a topic for yourself.
The next one that would probably be of general FReeper interest would be this:
Nah, homosexual “marriage” is just a symptom of a deeper malaise.
What conqueered America is the pervasive worship of Created Things.
See Romans 1:25+ and the order of precedence therein.
