That's not the purpose of FR and not the purpose of our Religion forum. Trashing religion is not debate.
Those who cannot live with this are welcome to post elsewhere.
I asked the owner to define “bashing”. He has not. Would you like to try?
You know, these things kind of creep up over the years without one realizing it. It was only a year ago that I thought “where are all the book clubs on FR?” I remember when we used to read books together. Even the cooking thread is a shadow of its former self. Not that I blame the religious threads for pushing them out of the way.
Oh please, it's a website, not a front yard.
Well...bye.
Jim, and all - I agree that an individual’s religious convictions should never come under attack to personally insult their values, beliefs and interests.
However, some large religious organizations figure prominently in the news due to the effect they have on society’s culture and political policy.
Islam and Catholicism are two of the largest religions in the world, each having over one billion followers.
It seems reasonable that there would be posts on FR featuring news articles about those two religions, as well as others.
It’s essential that we remain informed of all foreign and domestic organizations that may affect our liberty and free republic.
It appears that many international bodies of influence and control are ongoing change agents that shape our freedom and norms, ie: EU, IMF, FED, UN, WTO, LGBT movement, News media, including religious order authorities (Anglican, Southern baptists), etc.
The Catholic Church arguably is a society change agent, and makes mainstream news on a weekly basis by ways of Vatican news releases, and papal diplomacy.
If we post an article here, from a catholic family news publication expressing concern that the pope is working on one world religion standards, is that not a newsworthy post?
As an american and christian, a United Nations one world religion collaboration concerns me greatly, and I care about learning and discussing more about this with fellow posters here.
I do understand there is a distinction between insult, and discussing fact.
Discussion of institutional facts and direct quotes should not be seen as bashing, particularly if they are not personal in nature.
I hope FR remains a place where we can respectfully and rationally discuss All facts that affect our world and our future.

Catholic Family News - Update: Perez calls on Pope to create one world religion standards.
Truthfully, I don’t believe we really are in disagreement.
I disagree with bashing Catholics or Protestants. Obviously, you do too.
I agree. There are legitimate disagreements based on how different Christian churches interpret the Bible, those subjects can be debated civilly. For example debating whether infants should be baptized. Both positions can find Biblical support and arguments can be based on factual church teaching and practice.
What people can no longer do is just make crap up while maligning the beliefs and intentions of others. That goes for Protestant and Catholics.
Free Republic is a privately owned web site.
Really? No kidding?

Thanks Jim.
Let’s not put on that halo quite yet. Yes Catholics have been guilty of bashing other religions. We are not perfect. In the heat of argument it is easy to forget charity and let tempers get the best of us. I am glad that you have not been guilty of this but I am pretty sure that is not true of all of us.
These cretins just cannot help themselves.
Try post 160 as an example of when to shut up.
Thank you, JimRob. Much appreciated.
Thank you!
Try the link I posted in #145, that bass turd made a hobby our of bashing and ridiculing Catholics.
Thank you, Jim!
To non-Catholics the Pope is a public figure who makes statements pertinent to public issues. He is not immune from criticism for that reason. Now bashing a Catholic teaching from the Pope might be subject to JR’s ban. For instance claiming the Pope is planning on reviving the worship of Ishtar because he gives a world leader an icon of the Virgin Mary.
Catholic Ping!
