Which is why they needed to many of them.
If Catholic doctrine had not changed over all those years, there wouldn’t have been the need for them all. The doctrine would have been established at the very beginning and never changed since then.
But you and I are both old enough to remember Vatican 2 and the changes and the absolute uproar it caused among the faithful.
The *God is all powerful, He can do anything He wants* fallacy shows the abysmal ignorance Catholics have of Scripture.
The looks on the faces of people I have said *No, God CAN’T do anything He wants. That’s a false premise* is priceless.
It’s like nobody ever heard of that before and I just uttered heresy and sacrilege.
The whole argument falls apart when you’re not even starting with a correct premise. Everything built on that WILL fall and fail.
It is very telling that catholics seem to always speak of the truth and beauty of the "church".....rarely do we hear of the thankfulness of what Christ has done for us.
Why is it always about the "church" with catholics? Who do they love more....the roman catholic church or Christ?
There is a difference.
And you come back with "believe what you want?"
Seems like it is you who is believing what they want.
No, it is pointless to go through this over and over. It is a great big never ending circle. The only facts you have presented are ones you believe are true. I know what I believe is true. You listed the councils where truth has been defined and thus protected by the Holy Spirit over the last 2000 years. Truth is found in the bible and tradition. You have what? Your interpretation of the bible. Thats it. No authority, no safe guard of the truth, only you.
No, not only me.
The Word.
The word is Truth, not the Catholic church and its councils.
THIS!!!!
Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not."Behold, I have told you before." So there's no excuse for buying into any of the false wonders to come. We have His word. Some find that to be ... unsatisfying:
(Matthew 24:23-26)
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. We however are like Peter at the conclusion of the Bread of Life discourse:
(2 Timothy 4:3-4)
Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.To whom else shall we go, indeed. That is the question ...
(John 6:67-69)
He said, “This is my body...” “...this is my blood...”
22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose some of their own men and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were leaders among the believers. 23 With them they sent the following letter:The apostles and elders, your brothers,
To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:
Greetings.
24 We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.
Farewell.
Now, the authority claimed By James and the Council IS THE HOLY SPIRIT, telling these new Christians to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, AND FROM BLOOD. But the catholic priest holds a cup you are ordered to believe has the LITERAL blood of Christ in it and to drink it. THAT is substituting the sacrilege for the sacred.
Would the Holy Spirit contradict that by authorizing the first church council to tell newborn christians to abstain from blood? Look at the passage in Luke of the same Passover meal. It does not jive with the other Gospel readings, so there is a way to reconcile that. It is ALWAYS best to go to the scriptures to settle a seeming contradiction. CAn you do it? Or must you insrtead just trust ‘tradition’ to lead you along the wide road?
Amen!
It also reveals the heart and character of the one reading it!
It's a good thing the human heart is totally beyond reproach, always totally truthfull and fully knowable.Otherwise one might be tempted to worry that subconsciously we might entertain any and every excuse to justify 'thinking around' the Word.
Nice try; but deflect don't work too well on me.
He never said a LOT of things!
So this allows Rome to INVENT whatever it wishes?
By what had been WRITTEN!
A certain Ethiopian eunuch could explain it to you.
Or maybe THIS might give a wee hint:
Acts 18:28
For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah.
She who must be obeyed.
Nice assumption!
Yeah; what about 'em?
What about Rahab the Harlot?
Says WHO?
ROME???
