So you don't understand the difference between believing that and believing on?

Believing that there is one God is not the same as believing on Jesus/God.

We all understand.

Life happens.

It’s been nice discussing the issues instead of the conversation deteriorating into a name calling, accusation fest.

Thanks.

Hebrews 10:14, Paul uses sanctified to focus upon the 'after justification' as in the Priest forever has made the Perfect offering once for all, forever, so the offering over and over is not done and He now sits while the sanctifying goes forward via The Holy Spirit of Promise, Promised to arrive at Pentecost to seal The Church Body members.

Hebrews 10: 11 - 18

11 Every priest indeed stands day by day serving and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins, but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God; from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet. For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, "This is the covenant that I will make with them: 'After those days,' says the Lord, 'I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;'" then he says, "I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more."

Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

The problem is that many people think that the Catholic Church “draws out” teachings from Scripture. This is not at all the case: instead, the Church has more knowledge than is contained in Scripture.

Any time someone writes something that is any good, the writer knows **more** than is included in the material.

Let’s look at this type of situation in an analogical way: consider a school of thought like the Intelligent Design movement. There are a few books and articles associated with this movement.

What would you think if an evolutionist pored over the writings and started drawing conclusions which were not those of the writers? Would you appeal to the writers of the texts? Certainly Michael Behe would be the foremost expert on the book Darwin’s Black Box, wouldn’t he?

Now, suppose that we are talking a couple of generations from now. Dr Behe is no longer living, but some of his students, his doctoral students, are still alive. Would you go to them for understanding about ID, or would you go to an evolutionist, or would you go to someone who had read the books?

The writers of Scripture had been taught by God Himself. Most of them lived with Christ for their period of discipleship; St Paul learned from God and from the Apostles (remember that he verified that he “was not running in vain” with Peter).

The Early Church Fathers were those who were taught directly by the Apostles or those taught by the Apostles, and so on. These students of students of students… of Apostles were the people who determined the precise nature of Christ, who resolved issues about the Trinitarian nature of God, and several other issues.

It is this group who has the authority from Christ to teach (go out and teach all nations) and the protection of the Holy Spirit (the gates of Hell will not prevail) which has been passed on through the centuries in the Catholic Church.

This is analogous to the Jewish Talmud, which is a set of oral Jewish laws pre-dating Christ, but written after the destruction of the Temple.

IF we believe that it is God’s Holy Spirit Who inspired the scriptures, then we also admit He is able to have His message remain in the scriptures He authors. Interestingly, the scriptures edify themselves in the hearts of those diligently seeking Him in His Word. That’s why we keep posting scripture passages for you ...

And not one wit of it is inspired truth.. It is nothing more than the musing of men.. doing a search one finds out that the ECF did not agree on most things RC claims are "tradition" ... they have picked and chosen things that fit their doctrine.. or desired doctrine..

Sorry my friend, you have been brainwashed ...

That sir, is exactly the problem. The Catholic Church, as you say, does NOT draw its teaching from scripture, and a lot of the extra knowledge is false. The other poster is right. You have been brainwashed. There just isn't much else to say.

I see this as being two different lines of interpretation: the interpretation that we pick up for ourselves and use in our own lives which comes from meditating on the Word of God, and interpretation which is taught to others on a sort of more organizational level.

2 Peter 1:20 doesn't make that distinction.  Of course he doesn't have to.  He's not talking about reading prophecy.  He's talking about writing it.   No organizational or individual rule.  Just an origin story, designed to comfort those who had been given false doctrine and wanted to know the truth.  What does Peter do?  He tells them they can trust the Scriptures, because they came from God mind, not man's.

baptism ...

How can we deal with baptism, without settling on first principles first?  And speaking of first principles ....

If one is trying to find the river and people say, it’s to the north, if they are wrong, one will go in the wrong direction and not find what they are looking for; it will become a matter of luck as to whether they find any water at all.

Luck?  The Roman goddess Fortuna?  Or the sovereign Lord of the Universe:
The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
(Proverbs 21:1)
God turns the hearts of Kings, and He turns the river, whichever way He likes.  You see, this is no ordinary river.  This is a river of living waters, the Hoy Spirit of God, who does not mindlessly flow past thirsty souls, but seeks them out, according to the will of the Father, reaching every elect one of God, every lost sheep drawn by the Father to the Son, and He will lose none of them.

Luck? Fortuna? Or this:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
(Ephesians 1:3-6)
No, not luck.  Divine, eternal love, set upon us from before the dawn of time, clawing through a billion difficulties, just to reach us, each of us by name, for whom He gave His life.  No luck needed at all. That river will find those who thirst for God, and it will satisfy their thirst.

Peace,

SR
