Six Poor Reasons for Rejecting the Miraculous
Saints and Sceptics blog ^

Posted on 06/07/2015 7:08:33 PM PDT by DeweyCA

Christian theology affirms a number of miracles, most importantly the atonement, the resurrection, the incarnation and the virgin birth. The secular mind dismisses these as tall-tales and myths produced by superstitious, pre-modern minds. However, it seems to us that the modern prejudice against miracles is not very rational.

1) Experience shows that miracles do not occur (Skip)

2) Science shows that miracles are impossible! (Skip)

3) If we believe in one supernatural event we might as well believe in Santa and flying reindeer! (Skip)

4) But surely miracles are so improbable, so extraordinary, that no amount of evidence could justify believing a miracle had occurred? (Skip)

5) You can’t believe in miracles unless you already believe in God. (Skip)

6) There is no way to tell from the historical record if a miracle has occurred. (resurrection evidence)

Actual miraculous material is in our hands when we hold our bibles. I'm not speaking of its remarkable preservation, publication, and dissemination, although we can certainly find the miraculous in that. I'm speaking of the prophetic passages contained therein that have no explanation other than One who stands outside time directing the events of our existence toward events that shout out the existence of God.

Professor Peter Stoner wrote in "Science Speaks" of the probability of just the 7 major prophecies of the Messiah coming to pass by mere happenstance. Professor Stoner was an expert in probability and statistics. He said it was 1 chance out of 1017 that the fulfillment of those prophecies was accidental. He then described that number. He said it was the same as filling Texas 3 feet deep with silver dollars, painting one of them blue, stiring them all about, and then having a blindfolded person given the chance to bend over and pick up a silver dollar. For it to be the blue silver dollar...that would be one chance out of 1017 silver dollars. In short it was not accidental. We hold the miraculous in our hands.

Don’t remember exactly where or when I read that glaring concept that treats miracles as a commoditys..

BUT; smell of the truth of it.. penetrated my “SPIRIT” like a bolt of lightning..
A sweet lingering after taste with a chocolaty finish if I remember correctly..

MY “FETUS” whom I choose to call my sister is a seven month
“premmie” which is now in her sixties as a fugitive from abortion... is a definite “Miracle”... almost a six month premmie..

AND some wonder if a FETUS is an actual BABY?....
A MIRACLE would be ME NOT calling them MORONS....

The “church” for a coupla centuries had no bibles..
Not that 99% of them could even read.. anyway...
OR needed to... “they” had no books..

The question is......... WHAT DID THEY HAVE?..
They had something... what was it.?..

A question as pertinent today as “THEN”..

So true, Sir! That the God Who Creates is so close as to speak through His written Word is indeed miraculous, and probably why the ones rejecting God are so determined to paint the Bible as flawed, mistranslated, transcription error filled, etc. To accept it as God’s Word would admit that He is able to have it just as He wants it for this Age.
