In his weekly audience Wednesday, Pope Francis gave dating couples some radically countercultural advice, encouraging them to hold off on sex until they are properly married. While the Popes words merely reiterated traditional Christian teaching on sex, they clash with a reigning mentality that advocates any and all sexual activity, provided it is consensual.

Dumb comments on your part.
Liberal pabulum.
Beat me to the punch.
The only thing that separate us from wild animals is the ability to control sexual urges. The ones that can’t are predator rapists and sex addicts that die a young death. The pope is exactly right.
He should tell it to homosexuals. Love to see that reaction.
The Catholic Church is not a protestant denomination. Homosexual unions or marriages or whatever you want to call this perversion will never be condoned by the Catholic Church like they are in many protestant faiths. And for that reason liberals have tried for years to destroy the Church.
No, the pope did not make the “rule” - it is in the Bible, which was written before there was a pope or a Roman Catholic Church (I know, I’m going to get hammered about Peter - but I don’t buy that Peter was the first pope..)
Premarital sex reduces the chance of a successful, long-term marriage. It is reduced further by premarital sex with the one you marry, and even more by co-habitation.
Sex is extremely powerful, and few are able to use it safely - evidenced by the litany you posted. No premarital sex is a “rule” like “check the air in your tires”, “don’t jump off of tall buildings”, “check the oil and water levels”.
They are not arbitrary rules intended to impede one’s enjoyment or progress, but directions from the owner’s manual on how to best have a good, successful life.
I know, I broke the rules, and I am paying the price.
If I had a penny for every premarital sex relationship in the last century, I’d be richer than the Clintons. Pre marital sex does not cause broken marriages. I’m sure there are millions of marriages that lasted forever even though they had sex before the ceremony. Been married to the same woman for 39 years, we are still as close as ever, it takes more than sex to keep it going. If the chemistry is there, it doesn’t mater whether you had sex before or not. Telling people to refrain from premarital sex is as helpful as telling people to refrain from war.
From the article:
" In the wake of the recent gay marriage referendum in Ireland, the Pope hit hard on the nature of marriage as a covenant of love between man and woman, which he also called an alliance for life and not merely a sentimental or sexual arrangement. On Tuesday, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin also slammed the Irish referendum, calling it a defeat for humanity.
Kind of amazing how many people have reading comprehension deficiencies.
And a much larger one per capita... as our public institutions enforce ‘tolerance’ man on boy pederasty is going to rise... just as it did when the Church tolerated men with active issues regarding same sex attraction to come into the seminary.
The Church has changed how it accomodates such men... the secular culture and it’s schools are going full speed in the other direction.
What rule are you referring to?
Kind of amazing that people actually believe the Pope has the hotline to God.
So... I suppose everyone posting here was a virgin on their wedding day, right?
When asked about homosexuality, didn’t the current Pope say something like, “Who am I to judge?”
I may be wrong, but I interpreted that statement as the Pope basically not having an issue with the practice, therefore practically condoning it.
Not me. I was nearly 40 years old when I got married.
And no, I wasn’t the 40 year old virgin at the time I was married.
Not proud of that fact. But we are ALL sinners. And I am no exception.
“I may be wrong, but I interpreted that statement as the Pope basically not having an issue with the practice, therefore practically condoning it”.
He said if someone is homosexual and is trying to live their life for Christ, which means abstaining from sex, no one has the right to judge them. There is nothing to judge.
The liberal media has twisted and turned that statement into something they want the pope to be, an fan of homosexual unions, which he’s not. One thing he has done as pope is speak time and time again about the beauty of marriage and it’s role in God’s plan. Marriage of a man and woman. There is no other type.
In the wake of the recent gay marriage referendum in Ireland, the Pope hit hard on the nature of marriage as a covenant of love between man and woman, which he also called an alliance for life and not merely a sentimental or sexual arrangement.
I just translated Francis' entire message in google translate and as far as I can see he never mentions the gay marriage referendum in Ireland.
And who would that be?
If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?
We shouldn’t marginalise people for this. They must be integrated into society.
Pope quotes.
“the policy of the Catholic Church, which holds that while homosexual orientation is not in itself sinful, homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.
“But they signalled that Francis accepts that some priests are gay, and that it is acceptable as long as they adhere to their vow of celibacy, marking a more compassionate stance on the issue.”
Just a quick search and one of the first results to come up.
This Pope is either the most misunderstood, taken out of
context, misinterpreted popes to ever be or he’s a commie.
Thanks for clearing that up.
I was careful to say I may be wrong.
I know a lot of what the Pope says is getting misinterpreted or mistranslated.
But I do think Pope Che is definitely a socialist like most people from his native country.
This article gives a bit of reality: "...does not change church teaching." (LINK)
And here's out esteemed Fr. Z (LINK), with his plain and pointed remarks.
Bottom line, the Pope was talking about a same-sex attraction, a tendency or temptation, NOT A BEHAVIOR.
Pope Francis: If they accept the Lord and have goodwill, who am I to judge them? They shouldnt be marginalized. The tendency is not the problem theyre our brothers. |
If they accept the Lord, and have goodwill
pretty clearly meaning, if they are trying to live a good Christian life, which involves continency and chastity, then I cant point a finger at them and say they are evil, etc. Who am I to judge?, depends on what went before in the same sentence. It does not mean, Anyone can do anything and we dont have a right to make a moral judgement."
