What permanent effects did it have?

While serving with the US Army in WW I, the great character actor Walter Brennan was caught in a mustard attack. The attack left him with his famous, distinctive voice.

Of course, men who inhaled more of the gas were not so lucky.

I remember reading about a girl retelling the story about dozens of zombie like men walking through the woods expressionless, victims of a mustard gas attack. Terrifying. Poor souls.

I remember sitting at my desk in Rockefeller Plaza and it was announced over the speaker that some poisonous gas had possibly, purposely been entered into the vents. My stomach sunk. I called my girlfriend and told her I loved her. And then we just waited lol. I don’t remember exactly what else transpired after that but I know they advised people who wanted to to get some strong antibiotic cipro? that was supposed to help against it. I didn’t get it. obviously the threat was overblown.
