"If instead they started from the position that the first draft of the story got things wrong and needs to be cleaned up, they would have a much easier time with this pope."

I'll just cite from the "best rated" response comment at
the linked story re: the question of responding to the
"What the Pope really meant to say was" du jour -

"Did he, or did he not recognize the inheritors of the
Nazi's desire to slaughter the Jews?
Is he or isn't he supporting the leftist climate agenda
that will damn billions to poverty?
If he's not being trusted, maybe the reason isn't with us (I am a Catholic as well)"

I have not read his eco-encyclical yet, this is not a question I can answer with any actual facts.

Did he, or did he not recognize the inheritors of the Nazi's desire to slaughter the Jews?

I am uncertain what is meant by recognizing someone; however, Pope Francis said that he hoped that Abbas would be an Angel of Peace, not that he is an Angel of Peace.

Someone in the comments on the article mentions he never remembered Benedict being misunderstood. The reason is that liberals could not mishear him to support their political preferences but they can mishear Pope Francis. When liberals try to quote Pope Francis to support their own positions, conservatives appear to react by assuming that the liberals are accurately quoting Pope Francis.

I do not lose faith that the Bible is the word of God because it is misquoted and distorted by liberals and protestants, so why should I lose faith that the Pope is an orthodox Catholic because he is misquoted by liberals and a decent percentage of conservatives?
