Do they ever use Rachmaninoff’s Vespers?
“Do they ever use Rachmaninoffs Vespers?”
Yes, in some of the larger cathedrals.
In some respects, it’s kind of a shame he came to America and had to perform to make a living. It really diminished the time he had to be able to compose. But, I suppose if he remained in Russia, he would have been banned or something.
So I am confused.
Do Jews in the Orthodox areas celebrate Passover this week too?
There is a movie about his life called “Harvest of Sorrow”.
I am waiting for it to become available on netflix.
Thanks for that.
Given his background, family and religious faith, it is highly unlikely he would have survived the Communist purges.

My Pleasure! ;-)
A Blessed Easter to my brothers and sisters in Christ.
Ok...so shouldn’t Orthodox Easter be at the start of Passover, as per the Gospels?
IOW, it seems Passover drives Easter, not the calendar.
I understand Russian Christmas and the like...my mother was RO but we celebrated Catholic. So I have some understanding but this one always puzzled me.
See this explanation for the calendar difference.

That was lovely, thanks.
Easter greetings to all Orthodox FRiends!
