If one were to choose between remaining a Roman Catholic and instead to become only a believer in and follower of Lord Jesus Christ but without a church home, what would one choose?I've chosen the latter, and I and my wife speak to Him every day, along with our friends.
We have no need to "join" any constructed "church" or "religion" to profess our love for Jesus Christ or God. He and His Father are enough for us.

I've found gathering with like-minded believers in The Lord Jesus Christ helps everyone involved.
Accountability, group singing, worship music, hearing the Scriptures read aloud, corporate prayer, friends, encouragement, partaking in The Lord's Supper, a means to financially help others in Jesus' Name, (it seems pleasing to The Lord when we gather regularly in His Name)...just a few of the many many reasons I recommend not going it alone.
