Good idea?

Well, I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a “good idea”, so much as defining the limits of the discussion.

On the one hand, if they say that I am not allowed to have an opinion that differs from theirs, then there is no need to go further in the conversation.

“You don't want to discuss, you want to berate. Why should I hang around for that?”

On the other hand, if they say that I am allowed to have an opinion that differs from theirs, they seem to loose steam as when they get strident, I always remind them: “I thought I could have an opinion that differs from yours.”
