From Fundamentalist Baptist to Catholic – Steve Wilson’s Story
http://www.catholic-convert.com/ ^ | February 26, 2015 | Steve Wilson

Posted on 03/01/2015 4:54:44 PM PST by NKP_Vet

Archbishop Fulton Sheen once wrote: “There are not over a hundred people in the United State who hate the Roman Catholic Church; there are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church.”

I was one of those who hated because of what I wrongly believed about the Catholic Church. The reason I had these beliefs was due to being told what to believe about the Catholic Church from those who were told what to believe about the Catholic Church. No one was willing to find out what the bottom line was concerning the Catholic Church. Everything said about the Church was taken as truth while it seemed no one was delving into what the truth really was.

What about these Catholics? They worshipped Mary. They had a religion but not a relationship with Jesus Christ. They said they believed in God but really their belief couldn’t be the same, could it? The Bible says in James 2:19 KJV “Thou believest that there is one God; Thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble”.

So do Catholics have a belief such as the devils? When most Catholics are asked if they have been “born again” or “have accepted Christ as their Savior”, their main response is “I believe in God” or “I am a good person”, or “I’m Catholic”. Also, they have all these rituals, Saints, Statues and what about the Pope is he really standing in for God? Another big item, are they cannibals when they eat the bread and drink the wine during communion? Why do they leave Jesus on the cross, don’t they realize Jesus has risen from the dead?

Wasn't referring to the judgment of FReepers.

Go tell that to those eminent Protestant scholars and theologians who converted to Catholicism after a lifetimes of scholarly research and study and teaching. Until the heresy of Protestantism, ELEVEN centuries from the time of the Synod of Rome in AD 382, we had ONE Catholic Church with One Credo for all times, and is the Church of saints and martyrs and stigmatists.

It's in the Catholic Bible. Or do you "pick and choose what written words to follow"? How about that it's a disgrace to have a daughter? It's in the Catholic Bible.

well, so is demanding that people with leprosy walk through the streets shouting UNCLEAN....UNCLEAN.. and that there is that part of Leviticus where divorced and then remarried people should be stoned to death (they are commiting adultry you know)

You get judged at the moment of death. Review any literature of anyone that has had a near death experience.

Stop drinking the prot Kool-Aid.

Yes, the Catholic church has helped create many martyrs for Christ. Reference: Foxe's Book of Martyrs. Have you read it yet?

At some point, Arthur McGowan, every FReeper will have to take the responsibility for his/her actual words. That would include your over-the-top statements that are ironic evidently to only Catholics and your mindreading that leads to accusations of "deliberate malice" against another FReeper. Better have proof.

I contacted him and copied a number of the other Catholics on this list by FReepmail and took him to task for this comment. I advised him to get to his spiritual advisor.

I would like to take the opportunity to apologize to anyone that was offended by that comment on his behalf.

I use all sites that a search finds. I do not care what they are as long as the info is correct. Like I said before, I found some on the info way back in the late 90’s. If you do not believe it, then do your own search. I have more important things on my mind right now like surgery on both eyes in a few weeks.

Transubstantiated bread and wine into His Body and Blood!!!

Roman Catholics interpret this passage literally and apply its message to the Lord’s Supper, which they title the “Eucharist” or “Mass.” Those who reject the idea of transubstantiation interpret Jesus’ words in John 6:53-57 figuratively or symbolically. How can we know which interpretation is correct? Thankfully, Jesus made it exceedingly obvious what He meant. John 6:63 declares, “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.” Jesus specifically stated that His words are “spirit.” Jesus was using physical concepts, eating and drinking, to teach spiritual truth. Just as consuming physical food and drink sustains our physical bodies, so are our spiritual lives saved and built up by spiritually receiving Him, by grace through faith. Eating Jesus’ flesh and drinking His blood are symbols of fully and completely receiving Him in our lives.

The Scriptures declare that the Lord's Supper is a memorial to the body and blood of Christ (Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:24-25), not the actual consumption of His physical body and blood. When Jesus was speaking in John chapter 6, Jesus had not yet had the Last Supper with His disciples, in which He instituted the Lord’s Supper. To read the Lord’s Supper / Christian Communion back into John chapter 6 is unwarranted. For a more complete discussion of these issues, please read our article on the Holy Eucharist.

The most serious reason transubstantiation should be rejected is that it is viewed by the Roman Catholic Church as a "re-sacrifice" of Jesus Christ for our sins, or as a “re-offering / re-presentation” of His sacrifice. This is directly in contradiction to what Scripture says, that Jesus died "once for all" and does not need to be sacrificed again (Hebrews 10:10; 1 Peter 3:18). Hebrews 7:27 declares, "Unlike the other high priests, He (Jesus) does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins ONCE for all when He offered Himself."

You need to first read the great theological works of Augustine, Aquinas, Newman, and Benedict XVI before doing anything else. We all are aware of the anti-Catholic hit sites. This gets you nowhere.

There is one itsy-bitsy point about Protestantism: it goes against 2000 years of rolling tsunami waves of solid historical, theological, and intellectual scholarship by Catholics, non-Catholic Christians, non-Christians, atheists, and agnostics who have no question that Christ founded ONE Church, ONE truth, and this truth emanates from the Catholic Church. This is why it is the infallible nature of Petrine authority that enabled the authenticity of the canonical texts in AD 382. The Church pre-dated the Bible.

Those over-the-top statements were self-evidently ironic.

There is only one reason that anyone would PRETEND, as you do, not to recognize that those statements were ironic: fully deliberate malice.

You're sounding very Clintonish....maybe there's a vast right wing protestant conspiracy involved!

Hey, you posted them. And when you did there wasn't the slightest hint of irony or joking in them. The board took them as serious. Serious enough the RM pulled them if I recall.

So Art, now that you've shot your credibility to pieces, because we don't if you're telling the truth, why should we believe anything you say???

The Church pre-dated the Bible.

Yours, very likely. But not the Church Lord Jesus Christ founded.

(Unless you are meaning the saved Jews that came out of the graves and were seen by others in Jerusalem around the time of Jesus' death, burial, resurrection, and ascension to His Father in Heaven.)

>>Go tell that to those eminent Protestant scholars and theologians<<

Like Oboma the constitutional scholar? Or maybe Dolan with his degree of Licentiate of Sacred Theology? How about all those "eminent scholars" who now ordain women? You want eminent scholars? I'll take Christ and His lowly fisherman.

I don't need to talk to anyone.....most people are aware the Islam is a REAL death cult that follows teachings in direct opposition to Christ our lord.

Are you to answer for everything a protestant ever said or did?

Are you a Jew hater like Martin Luther?

I would guess not....but since you follow the rest of his teachings....I will ask.

Do you agree with Martin Luther or not?

Have you ever even read “On the Jews and Their Lies” written by Martin Luther?
