Embattled Vacaville pastor Mark Lewis sentenced to prison [arson, stalking case]

When a Vacaville woman tried to end her relationship with a former Baptist minister in late 2013, he told her that she'd created a monster. On Wednesday, Sarah Nottingham explained to a Solano County Superior Court judge that for a week, then-Pastor Mark Lewis showed her what a monster he could be.

Nottingham's words came during the sentencing hearing for Lewis, who in January pleaded no contest to charges of arson and stalking. Judge Dwight C. Ely sentenced Lewis to eight years in prison Wednesday in connection with the case that proceeded to a jury trial earlier this year, only to abruptly end when Lewis entered his plea after only a handful of witnesses had testified.

However, with Lewis' court case behind him, the emotional scars remain for Nottingham, she said Wednesday.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 9, 2014, a Molotov cocktail was hurled through a bedroom window of Nottingham's family home. No one was injured and damage to the home was minor, but a total of six people were asleep inside the residence at the time of the incident, including three children.

Following that incident, Lewis defended himself to KCRA-TV (http://bit.ly/L7G7UZ ), alleging that three other suspects arrested in the case had falsely accused him of being involved.

Those suspects are Sacramento residents Richerd Wright, 28, Anthony Newbolt, 33, and Kristen Broyles, 30, of Citrus Heights, who were pulled over by Vacaville police in a U-Haul moving truck minutes after the firebombing.

Vacaville police Detective Omir Torres testified at a hearing in July that he later interviewed Newbolt, who told the detective that Lewis had instructed him to go to the home on Chateau Circle and set fire to a Cadillac to "send a message."

If only they would let them marry, this sort of thing wouldn’t happen.
