True; you DID say this; BUT..
...your CHALLENGE said THIS:
If by the end of the day tomorrow (1/28/15), you can show me a Bible text that says that the apostles were not at the crucifixion, I will immediately donate an additional $100 to Free Republic...
The LOVE you have for the correct wording of Scripture is appalling!
Yeah...
The frigid Jewish girl.
I wonder if she had EVER read the song of Solomon?
Gosh!
This would take a lot of the fun out of it!
We know about the Promise...
...make a righteous judgment...
I’ve been there, and SEEN the receiving of the wafers and wine.
Nothing happened.
Well, there may be one reason Paul gave the instructions for what the requirements for leadership in the ekklesia must be. That they be married with children having already proven themselves. Those priests that have never had any children ain't got a clue.
On a slightly more serious side. What would you call "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me (Psalm 51:5) and other passages like it? Give us a name for it Arthur.
You should huff and puff and wave a $100 bill around in the trailer court!
The Bible does not include a comprehensive list of everyone who was at the crucifixion (either close-up, or at a distance on the periphery), any more than it includes a list of everyone who was at the "Sermon on the Mount".
And increasing at astounding rates.
If you leave off YOUR added quotes; does the bible indicate that John was the only one?
NO one does.
So?
I've yet to see any of our FR Catholics tell me what is NECESSARY from Catholicism that is NOT found in the bible.
Ain't it amazing what Catholics can come up with!
You are SO demanding!
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
And those keys are the information in the scriptures that Catholics claim are insufficient.
Jesus took the sins of us all upon Himself. What part of that do you not understand?
>>Using a single sentence of ANY document, including Scripture, to answer a question or to prove a point that the author wasnt even discussing or even thinking about, is to twist, exploit, and misuse that document.<<
Like "on this rock I will build my church" single sentence, misuse, twist, and exploit?
>>Theres a long history of that kind of interpretation of Scripture.<<
Like the totally twisted "she shall crush your head"?
>>Before you can know what a verse in Scripture means, you must know what the HUMAN AUTHOR<<
So you don't believe that scripture is the inspired words of the Holy Spirit?
>>It is NEVER a valid use of Scripture to rip a word, phrase, or sentence from its context, as though it was intended to answer questions the author was not even thinking about.<<
Yet the Catholic Church is built on taking individual verses and building false doctrine.
Do you have rivers of water flowing from your belly also?
The expression "clear words" is the operative term in your post. As I learned from another FRoman, "clear words" means whatever the Roman denomination taught, that they can then find the same words in Scripture - but now they are infused with the Roman meaning. This precludes context, history, Jewish tradition, language, etc. It is simply eisogesis on your part, as you "see" what Rome has taught you to see. I've observed many on this forum who once inoculated by Rome are Bible-blind to what it there. They repeat the same thing over and over as if declaring it so makes Rome correct."Then why did Jesus repeat it and not explain that it was not literal? It is no surprise that those who start with God's revelation, instead of Rome's declaration, reach vastly different conclusions.
Verse 63 in that passage makes it clear that it is the Spirit that gives life, not flesh.
His explanation was also metaphorical.
"Why did Jesus say Do this in Memory of Me at the Last Supper as Catholics celebrate the Eucharist at Mass?
The Lord's Supper is a memorial in the same way the celebration of Passover every year was a memorial of the One Passover in Egypt. It is a reminder and a sharing in the spiritual reality. Jews looked back at the institution of Passover and obeyed God, doing it regularly.Christians understand that Christ used the symbolism of Passover to teach HE is the True Passover Lamb that died for the sins of the world. He commanded that believers should regularly do this as a memorial, looking back on His once-for-all sacrifice.
"Why did Luther believe in the Real Presence?"
Blessed Father Luther recovered the Gospel of Grace. That is more of a mission than one could ever expect to accomplish in one lifetime. That he stumbled in many ways, indoctrinated in Rome's errors is not surprising. He was human. I am grateful for what he was used to do. I graciously set aside where he was wrong, as God does with us."I am sure that Satan would accept this alternate explanation so that one does not receive the gift and grace of Christs Body and Blood. Satan certainly does not want us to gain salvation."
Salvation comes from entrusting ourselves to Christ alone for salvation. It is based entirely on His gift of grace and we an not add to it. Believing upon Him is to "eat" His Body and Blood. You are indeed right about one thing... If there is anything Satan would love, it is the obscuring of the truth of Salvation by Grace and apart from works.
