Well this Catholic is using her God-giving COMMON SENSE and I know that position is a clunker. I would rather go with what those Catholic saints who were around when Islam was first was around. They saw it for what it is.
Waiting on the catholic church to apologize for the killings of all non-catholics during the Middle Ages.
Until then....the pope and catholicism has very, very little room to talk on this issue.

defconw, sounds like catholicism has its own personal interpretations as well. until catholicism is in 100% accord on everything, and I mean everything, you have no room to lecture anyone else.

The Pope’s opnion is never going to be 100% agreed upon. But at least we have a leader.
It doesn't matter....catholics have to be 100% subject to the pope. You have ZERO say in the mater. And don't say you don't have to be subject to the pope because there are too many quotes from the pope saying you have to be.
Christians have a leader....His name is Jesus. Unlike the pope, He's never, ever wrong on any issue.
As a Roman Catholic of many, many years, I have never heard any priest criticize any Protestant religion. Respect for other Christian religions and for Judaism is preached occasionally, though.
Perhaps, thinking is different in your denomination, “American Catholicism”.

That is what we do in my LCMS church as part of the New Years service (and Easter vigil).
Every Good Friday, there is a list of petitions that are offered during the very simple prayer service, since there is no mass or liturgy and it includes prayers for those who believe in God but not in Jesus. Though not mentioned in name, most likely it is for the Muslims.

“Love the muslims, hate the protestants (the priest had a nice anti protestant sermon on Christmas eve, followed by how much he respected the mosque across the street).”
I am Catholic, and this sounds crazy. I have not ever heard a sermon in my church which could be called ‘anti-Protestant’ - unless it would be a call for people to return to the Catholic Church.
I do think that the entire Western world is bending over backwards to not offend Muslims - or say anything bad about Islam. They are in a state of denial about the dangers we face.

You know, if sure helps if you follow the thread on this. This reply about being 100% subject to the pope dealt with the CCC's statement on catholics and islam. Biggirl took exception to this. She noted would basically do her own thing.
This is what she didn't agree with.

As this is a matter of faith, biggirl and all catholics have to subject to the pope/church on this. No deviations allowed. Ya'll are the Borg on these matters.
It was really bizarre. As in I had to look to my bride and make sure I hadn’t drank from the wrong egg nog.
