Dr. Scott Hahn, theologian, author and Catholic apologist, has undergone a successful surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where a skilled medical team used laparoscopic incisions to access and repair five hernias.
Dr. Hahn posted a personal message on his Facebook page, updating his followers regarding his condition:
A brief update on a very recent development (Jan 2):
Surgery went well. My good friend (and great surgeon), Dr. McKeating (the most admired by all the nurses), managed to find five hernias (not just two), which he accessed by making twelve laparoscopic incisions. Things were a little more complicated than expected. Even so, Doc found a way to make one big fine ‘mesh’ – for all five! Hours later, I was treated to my first ever catheter. Not to be forgotten any time soon, the first couple tries didn’t take, but the third one worked (but NOT like a charm). No big shock, though, for my first stay at a hospital named ‘Mercy’ (yes, for which ‘Pride’ was turned down). But ‘it’s all good’ (“Omnia in bonum” – Rom 8:28). So many other graces also, due in no small measure to all of your prayers, and the resultant superabundance of Divine Mercy. Likewise, Kimberly’s loving presence here all day (and into the wee hours) is a wellspring of deep comfort and good humor. Thanks be to God for my bride!
One other thing: it’s been a real joy, privilege and consolation to pray for you, my beloved family and dear friends, and to offer these rather meager sufferings up to our Lord for your needs and intentions (Col. 1:24). A thousand thanks for all your prayers, especially that I can lose a bad case of the hiccups (not much fun, just cuz they leave me in stitches
This is not the first medical crisis to beset Dr. Hahn. He had a problem with diverticulitis in 2010, and his intestine ruptured in 2012, necessitating the removal of 18 inches of his small intestine.
Please pray for Scott Hahn: that the Lord will bless him with healing and will grant him good health for many years to come, so that he can continue his ministry of teaching, writing and evangelizing.

I didn’t know Dr. Hahn was poorly. Praise God for the successful surgery, and I’ll pray for his quick recovery.
Godspeed.
Prayers for his successful treatment and full and speedy recovery !
I’ll have to save that for the next time my son has to go in. LOL
If you get a chance, go see him speak. And watch Consuming the Word on EWTN.
He’s only 57. I thought he was older. Perhaps bowel difficulties run in his family.
He is very gifted, and a blessing to The Church.
Anyway - recently he was guest on EWTN Live with Fr Mitch Pacwa.
I was rather disappointed to see him looking like he had been eating wayy too much. You’d think ~ ~ ~
I agree ,Prayers for Dr.Hahn/
Dr. Hahn is a Weight Watchers Lifetime Member. Maybe he stopped going to meetings. When I do that, the results are predictable.
I love Fr. Mitch. I used to have several VHS tapes of his lectures.
Catholic apologist..Hummmm
I didn’t hear of this at Catechism,
whats it??????
An “apologist” is someone who explains the Catholic Faith, with an emphasis on addressing disagreements.
It’s a description, not a title. Dr. Hahn is a professor at Franciscan University of Steubenville as his “real job.”
Many of his presentations are available free online and are very informative.
This term is rather old and might sound odd to our 21st century ears. An ‘apology’ is “a reasoned argument or writing in justification of something, typically a theory or religious doctrine”.
I’m in Steubenville and just now hearing it. My first thought was I hope he’s not a Trinity, and I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw Pittsburgh. Our sitter also works for him. I’ll text her for an update, as she’s close with his kids.
Prayers for him. Good man.
Aren’t the Hahns’ children all adults now?
Amen.
