Here’s the sentence that discloses who is who.
**I remember as a youth that my swimming coach,**
“Similarly, priests and other celibates (such as religious) DO have something to teach about marriage. What we teach is not better than the advice of married people, but it is different; it is given from a different perspective.”- article
This is the sentence that position the religious as coach for marriage.
Coach In a sport (marriage) they have never played.
How do you know that the coach was not married?
Prayers for Shelia.
The ‘coach’ is a metaphor for the priest...(someone who offers advice to make the player better.)
...and i am reasonably certain that the priest/author, who is offering his thoughts on marriage, was never married.
If someone is going out of their way to instruct others on a topic, they have a responsibility to get it right.
They should be advised that they not worry themselves so much about what they must endure from their spouse, but consider what their spouse must endure on account of them.
***
Perfect advice, to be sure.
“Despite what popular culture claims, love isn’t just a bundle of sentiments. Love is, rather, the willingness to endure all sorts of difficulty, hardship, tedium, disappointments, and setbacks for the sake of someone else’s happiness and welfare. Love is another word for sacrifice and responsibility. Love is the greatest thing in life. In many ways, love is life.” - James B. Stenson, “To Be a Man ”
Love is a decision.
