But....does this apply to gay “marriage” too!?!? /s
Of course not.
Right On! Sex is not all that marriage is about.
Interesting - The author admits inexperience in the area of matrimony, and then likens himself to a swimming coach, instructing the swimmer from a coaches perspective. I find this to be a false analogy.
Did not every good swimming coach once have at least a moderately successful run as a swimmer himself?
Further down - Is it true that the world is “governed by a fallen angel”? I was not aware of that, and it seems contrary to the central teachings of the Church.
**Is it true that the world is governed by a fallen angel? **
Yes, the devil has control over the modern world....many can see that in what is happening.
God has complete control of heaven and hell.
The priest was the swimmer. Someone could see his mistakes from outside the pool — the swim coach. Makes sense to me.
Please look the at the entire quote again:
My marriage is not perfect because I am in it I am a sinner and I married a sinner, knowing he was a sinner I am living in a fallen world, governed by a fallen angel, and I myself have a fallen nature.
Ok - I did not take it out of context.
The assertion is that the world is governed by a fallen angel. Is that thought in accord with the official teaching of the Church?
I believe so. God allows Satan to do evil on earth. The trouble is that humans, you and me included, have free will and fall for Satan’s tricks sometimes.
We are of a fallen nature. So it makes sense to me.
“I will not now speak many things to you, for the prince of this world cometh, and in me he hath not anything” (John 14:30).
I think it would be accurate along the lines of ruler of the fallen, unrepentant in this fallen world.
Interesting question. FWIW:
Catechism:
2853 Victory over the “prince of this world” was won once for all at the Hour when Jesus freely gave himself up to death to give us his life. This is the judgment of this world, and the prince of this world is “cast out.”
From:
Who is the Prince of this World?
“The world of which the devil is prince or king is the world of unrepentant sinners. Like Lucifer, their leader, they are stubbornly set on doing their own will, contrary to the will of God.”

Thanks.
Thank you for the thoughtful/researched reply.

This points out the contradiction to Church teaching very clearly. (I had only suspected it was off.)
“His [the coach’s] perspective from out of the water gave him an understanding that even I, an experienced swimmer in the water, could not have. I might think my form was perfect, but he could see that it was not.
Similarly, priests and other celibates (such as religious) DO have something to teach about marriage. What we teach is not better than the advice of married people, but it is different; it is given from a different perspective. From our position, sometimes we can see things about Holy Matrimony that even the married have trouble seeing. Further, it is to be hoped that priests and religious are also well-versed in the Biblical teaching on Matrimony and family life and can offer the benefit of our study of Gods Word and our relationship with the Author of Holy Matrimony.

It is very clear that the author has the priest as the coach, not the swimmer.
That's a good point. In the big picture, we don't live very long.
