The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not mans standard.

Then you need to back off defining who Catholics are. Something you do every day here.Show me a post where I define who Catholics are. Provide the links to show that I've done it every day.
Otherwise, your accusation can be dismissed as bearing false witness.

Worshipping a cracker carried around on the end of a stick is idolatry In the protestant church it is indeed a cracker and either real wine or else grape juice. In the Catholic church, however, it is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.....how sad that you don't share that wonderful gift!!

There is NO reason to be Catholic. unless one wants to follow the Church that Christ founded and seek salvation through His gifts of the church and the sacraments and His personal guidance....

Thank you for all you have taken the time to quote and send.
Following Jesus' second commandment, I am going to give you the benefit of doubt and think only the best about you, that you really do have my best interests at heart and that you are motivated by your love for me.
Thank you for this gift of patience and these opportunities to grow in His Love that you have so graciously offered me.
I will pray for you and that we both gain from Wisdom's visit His understanding and His peace.
Be well, metmom. Happy New Year!

At least they have you duped into believing it. Jesus eating His own flesh and drinking His own blood!!! And that all living under the law of not eating blood. That's a sinful Jesus you guys have.

This may be news to you, but when you post comments on an OPEN thread anyone can choose to respond. If you don't like that, simply don't post on them.
When you criticize Christians who are not Catholic by attacking the Reformation - and all those you presume are related - with spurious charges, it's not unreasonable to expect responses that demonstrate why you are wrong. Own YOUR words.

You're welcome. I hoped it might be helpful, no matter which side of the arguments anyone might be coming from.
This means very literally all the laws of Moses (including the 10 commandments) are voided because we find Salvation in Jesus!!!
Your saying "voided" is a slightly different understanding than mine.
I've read that Mosaic Law's 10 Commandments have not been voided, but rather effectively condensed into Jesus' two commandments: Love God and love your neighbor as yourself.
In other words, you can't break any of the Big Ten without also breaking either of Jesus' first or second commandments and, conversely, breaking either of Jesus' two entails breaking one or more of the Mosaic Big Ten.
Jesus is more general with only two. Mosaic law is more specific with the ten.
Regardless, if you have Salvation in Jesus and Him in your heart and live through Him, loving God and your neighbors, you won't be breaking any of the Big Ten anyway, so your way of seeing it is essentially correct to my way of thinking.
Am I close?

Is it within the realm of possibility that Paul had a little more insight on this topic when he wrote those words? Possibly knowing that what he was writing was Scripture and that the other books of the NT would be as well. Peter referred to Paul's writings as "Scripture" so I would have to say that there was a unique respect given to those writings that were specifically given by the Holy Spirit. That, "Holy men of God spoke as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.", is how they were described. It should be obvious that this designation and recognition was not given to just any writing - even IF it came from the pen of an Apostle. There was something intrinsic to them that believers were able to know they were the truth and should be obeyed. The Jews didn't wait until the entire Old Testament was written before they accepted the writings of Moses and the prophets.

Acts 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well. Just so there is no confusion that is in the New Testament. Does that mean that you wouldn't accept a blood transfusion to save your life???

Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become "fools" so that you may become wise. (I Cor. 3:18)
