Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

My Savior is Jesus of Nazareth, Who because of what He has finished, is the One and Only Mediator between me and the Father in Heaven, and is the Only One able to reconcile me or any sinful human being to Almighty Holy God.

HEY, the Catholics had Him first!! In fact we had Him for sixteen centuries before you even knew who He was. If not for the Bible that the Catholics, inspired by the Spirit, wrote, edited, Copied (by hand) and preserved through the ages, you still wouldn't know who He was...

>>wow, you eat all your meat extra well done???...the red stuff coning out of your rare steak is.......blood<<

NO it's not. I do my own butchering and have since I was 18 years old. The blood is drained from the carcass prior to evisceration. The red from the meat is simply tissue fluids which may contain some red corpuscles but is NOT blood. Blood is a much more complex fluid.

>However in Genesis 9:21 the Bible notes Noah got drunk. So Noah sinned. Sure sounds like John understood the world was full of sinners. the kiddies are sinners.<

you have to be kidding....If Noah, getting drunk was a sin, the Jesus, making a bunch of wine LATE IN THE WEDDING PARTY was intentionally leading people into sin.

Multiple verses on being drunk is a sin and you ignore them. Amazing.

Let's talk about the wedding.

The people were already drunk if you read the passage. Jesus was not intentionally leading people into sin. He never causes us to sin. The Word is clear on that.

Jesus also hung out with sinners. Is He making them sin??

John did, indeed, realize that the world was full of sin but that in no way implied that ALL the people in the world were sinners.

I John 1:8

If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.

Believe the Word or doubt the Word. Your choice.

Kiddies???????not a chance that a just God would consider kiddie behavior sinful.

You never did mention the mentally deficient...a person aged 40 with the I.Q. of a 2 year old can sin????? Please, I'm certain that God considers them among the chosen, even if they have no idea or concept of who He is.

Let's keep this in mind as we discuss this.

Romans 5:12-14

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned— 13for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.

Let's be sure we are talking about people who are capable of cognizant thought and those who aren't.

The Bible is not clear on this and theologians have debated this one.

We do have the age of accountability that is covered in the article below.

The one passage that seems to identify with this topic more than any other is 2 Samuel 12:21–23. The context of these verses is that King David committed adultery with Bathsheba, with a resulting pregnancy. The prophet Nathan was sent by the Lord to inform David that, because of his sin, the Lord would take the child in death. David responded to this by grieving and praying for the child. But once the child was taken, David’s mourning ended. David’s servants were surprised to hear this. They said to King David, “What is this thing that you have done? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept; but when the child died, you arose and ate food.” David’s response was, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows, the LORD may be gracious to me, that the child may live.’ But now he has died; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.” David’s response indicates that those who cannot believe are safe in the Lord. David said that he could go to the child but could not bring the child back to him. Also, and just as important, David seemed to be comforted by this knowledge. In other words, David seemed to be saying that he would see his baby son (in heaven), though he could not bring him back.

Although it is possible that God applies Christ’s payment for sin to those who cannot believe, the Bible does not specifically say that He does this. Therefore, this is a subject about which we should not be adamant or dogmatic. God’s applying Christ’s death to those who cannot believe would seem consistent with His love and mercy. It is our position that God applies Christ’s payment for sin to babies and those who are mentally handicapped, since they are not mentally capable of understanding their sinful state and their need for the Savior, but again we cannot be dogmatic. Of this we are certain: God is loving, holy, merciful, just, and gracious. Whatever God does is always right and good, and He loves children even more than we do.

With all that said, the Greek in Luke 1:28 does not support the immaculate conception. Catholic apologists admit so.

Catholics do not pray to statues...we buy them, they are made out of cement, they, in and of themselves have no power to do anything but make good paperweights.

Does Elsie have to post the pictures again??

2 Corinthians 5:21

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

The catholic cannot appeal to Scripture based on their own admission.

The catholic cannot appeal to tradition based on their own admission.

So, I keep asking....what is the catholic appealing to?

Eight hours later and still *No Replies*.

And yet, when Christians post verses from the Book you claim catholics wrote...they are completely ignored over tradition and feelings.

Amazing.

As Gabriel addressed Mary as Hail, Full of Grace, how could there be sin?

Where sin abounds, grace much more abounds.

Only sinners need grace. If Mary were indeed without sin, she would not need grace.

Romans 5:20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more

Dude...stop. You're embarrassing yourself.

This has been so easily disproved over and over again.

Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen.

CCC 2679 Mary is the perfect Orans (pray-er), a figure of the Church. When we pray to her, we are adhering with her to the plan of the Father, who sends His Son to save all men. Like the beloved disciple we welcome Jesus' mother into our homes, for she has become the mother of all the living. We can pray with and to her. The prayer of the Church is sustained by the prayer of Mary and united with it in hope.

Have you read the catechism??

God hates?! I don't think so... God may hate evil, but in His Infinite Wisdom does not hate people, whom He has created in His own image and likeness, if they are alive and still have the chance to accept His Grace.

The leap to the Catholic hierarchy is your own interpretation. I don't hate anyone. If I allow myself to hate, then I have to account for it when I stand before Him in eternity.

I'm sorry you feel as you do about dialogue among Christians. Thank you for being honest. God bless you on your journey of faith!

unless you don't think that he fully accepted the trials and tribulations of being a human..yes, I believe that His Father protected Him from bowing to temptation...He was tempted you know.

Then Scripture was not accurate in stating that He was tempted in every way, just as we are and yet was without sin.

No, God did not protect Him. Jesus needed to face those same temptations so that He could overcome them.
