A type of work forbidden on Sundays and holy days unless required by public necessity or permitted by legitimate custom. Judicial proceedings consist of the ordinary business of the courtroom, such as pleading cases, acting as witnesses, passing judgment. Judges and lawyers are not forbidden to do legal work privately, for example, preparing a brief or holding private consultations.
