Leaders explore hospitality and relationship while stressing message to people of faith across the globe
WASHINGTON -- Washington National Cathedral and five Muslim groups announced today the first celebration of Muslim Friday prayers (Jumaa) at the Cathedral on Friday, November 14.
Leaders believe offering Muslim prayers at the Christian cathedral shows more than hospitality. It demonstrates an appreciation of one another's prayer traditions and is a powerful symbolic gesture toward a deeper relationship between the two Abrahamic traditions.

I’m NOT “you all”.
I’m Catholic.
Oh. Ok
The National Cathedral is one of the most monumental structures in all of Christendom.
Sorry to see it in the hands of people of questionable faith.
Great example of why I left the Episcopal Church and converted to Catholicism. Morons run the National Cathedral...
Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia non-muslims are forbidden from opening a church. In Jerusalem muslims won’t allow Jews to worship at the Temple Mount.
A note for everyone. This (US National Cathedral) is an Episcopal Church. It had nothing to do with the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception — the Catholic basilica in Washington, D. C.
Sometimes people get them mixed up.
Lovely. One hump or two?
Until then, don't bother me.
(Unless the priest or pastor does not survive.)
Capitulation and surrender come to mind. Maybe they should set up speakers where the politicians live and blast the call to prayer at very early or late times.
Ever notice how goats have diabolical pupils in their eyes, like cats?
This is Bill the Cat’s fault. Aaaaaack!
That's a gloss. Read Luther's "On War Against the Turk," if you can stay awake slogging through that tedium. My best attempt at a summary: "You shouldn't war against the Turk as Christians, but only as a secular power. And the Turk is no worse than the Pope, in fact he's better in some ways."
That was his second attempt at addressing the question; the first amounted to saying that the Turk was God's scourge and shouldn't be resisted.
So the Washington National Cathedral is now a mosque??
Desecration of a formerly Christian holy site.
Coexist.
Oh I know, let’s build a big sweat lodge in the middle of the cathedral and all go on a vision quest.
Yup. Any Catholic on this board who doesn’t think the same thing can’t and won’t happen in a Catholic Cathedral (oh, like maybe St Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC with the blessing of the Modernist Dolan) is living in a dream world.
We can “thank” John XXIII and Paul VI for that, not Martin Luther.
This is a slap in the face of those who on this very day have served the USA in the military. First, THANK-YOU verterans for your SERVICE!
Second, at a time when CHRISTIANS are under attack around the world, this is a disgrace.
Thank-you Salvation and God Bless!
That is why the Koran is called “the satanic verses”.
Abomination of Desolation?
No one at home guarding the temple from the enemies of Jesus Christ)
the first?
Can we expect the National Cathedral will soon be doing this every Friday?
And then broadcasting the call to prayer 5 times a day?
Then covering crosses and crucifixes and banning Bibles?
and segregating women?
Check back in in about a year.
