It is a sad commentary that many Protestant churches in America have lost sight of their sacred history, and have looked upon it with lesser importance....As a 10-year-old altar boy at Faith Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Va., I recall when Reformation Day was an annual event on October 31. It was a happy and fun time when youngsters like myself were thrilled by the stories of the great reformers such as Luther, John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli, and John Knox. We dressed in costumes of the Reformation Period, and were given special treats balanced with wholesome game activities....In commemorating the Protestant Reformation Day, I want to recognize the man, not bashing the Roman church or any religion, who had ideas and beliefs contrary to the current religious teachings at the time, and who had wrought changes for the betterment of growth and expansion of Christianity around the world.

Now, it's given way to Trunk or Treat and Halloween activities....

We celebrate Reformation Day in the PCA (Presbyterian Church in America [Not PCUSA]). It's a lot better than Halloween and the kids love it.
