A document summing up the synod so far has been described as a pastoral earthquake by a leading Vatican commentator.
The document, called the relatio post disceptationem, was read aloud in the synod hall this morning. It has been drafted by synod fathers selected by Pope Francis and can be read in full here.
The document calls on the Church to build on the positive aspects of relationships that are deemed irregular such as between remarried couples or same-sex partners and keep the doors always wide open to people in those relationships.
The relatio says that the Church reaching out to divorced Catholics does not represent a weakening of its faith but an exercise of charity.
The document cites calls by many synod participants to speed up the annulment process.
Regarding people who are gay, the document says: Homosexuals have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community. Are we capable of welcoming these people, guaranteeing to them a fraternal space in our communities? Often they wish to encounter a church that offers them a welcoming home. Are our communities capable of providing that, accepting and valuing their sexual orientation, without compromising Catholic doctrine on the family and matrimony?
Without denying the moral problems connected to homosexual unions, it has to be noted that there are cases in which mutual aid to the point of sacrifice constitutes a precious support in the life of the partners.
The document also emphasises the principle of graduality, the idea that Catholics move towards full acceptance of Church teaching in steps, and that the Church needs to accompany them with patience and understanding.
It speaks of accepting the reality of civil marriage and also cohabitation, noting that such unions can reach a notable level of stability through a public....

Please, ANYone can walk into a Mass, sit and "be there." The doors are ALWAYS open to ALL. The priest CAN'T refuse someone because he THINKS that a person may be in the state of sin. What those sinners do is between them and God and not your business to judge.
You know that and are just lecturing me for your own benefit.
Well put. He does sound judgmental, doesn't he? Sounds like anti-Catholicism to me. Not a new thing.
So your sins are more acceptable?
The Church accepts sinners, not sin.
How would you help change sinners into saints?
Would you do through God’s love or through hate?
And YOU might not want to read "negative" into a comment because the poster didn't quote the ENTIRE Scripture. Who are YOU to judge?
Who are YOU to question what I wrote and the intent in which I wrote it?
Might want to check your premise before responding.
So you're also one of "those" who leaves out the parts of the scripture they don't like because it doesn't suit your argument then?
No need to engage you further. I've made my point.
I am so sorry if I offended you. WHAT was I thinking?
humans are sinners
anything besides “go and sin no more” is bad policy
humans are not saints
They can go if they are divorced, it’s only if they remarried. Homosexuals can go if they do not fornicate. Those are the rules. They have always been the rules. Not everyone can be a victim.
Oh really?
Matthew 18:17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
Ah, NOW you add the caveats. I KNEW those things too, as a matter of fact. I also know the rules but you DIDN'T assume that.
No, everyone can't be a victim. Did I say anything to the contrary? Or are you reading more to what I write than what I write? I hope not. PLEASE try NOT to assume that I'm an idiot. I know it might be very, very, very difficult for you but ... hey, give it a whirl. :o)
> Are your sins public and subject to scrutiny?
I have confessed my sins AS sins and have begged the forgiveness of God, and my fellow man.
Homosexuals are blatantly unrepentant and want their sin to be accepted as normal behavior regardless of the Biblical proscriptions against same.
> Should we not follow Jesus teachings of Loving God and
> our neighbor as our self?
Is it truly loving your neighbor if you don’t tell him he’s about to back his car off a cliff, metaphorically speaking?
It’s one thing to welcome sinners into the church to hear the good news. Of course, the good news does not make sense unless contrasted against the bad news that you are a sinner and must repent or burn forever in a devil’s hell. That includes repenting from homosexuality, serial polygamy, and abortion, as well as blasphemy, idolatry, lying, stealing, adultery, and murder.
If you’re not sorry for your sins, then what need have you of a Savior? May as well go to a UU church or a country club.
Not condoning their sin, also implies go and sin nor more.
Sorry that I did not state that part.
All of our sins are an affront to God, whether public or not.
There is evil in the world, including the homosexual agenda.
How do we deal with it? Through god’s love and graces or by hate?
Jesus did by example and on some they changed and others did not.
Jesus gave us two commandments:
1. Love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole mind,
and with your whole strength;
2. you shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Scolding me isn't Christian either, no matter what Scriptures you care to cite, especially if you took ONE tiny moment of your life to figure out that I am as conservative as anyone here.
Or, are you just being anti-Catholic?
Either way: God bless you and yours.
John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
Hey I know you know. But I am tired of all the “victims” that cry about the rules. If you are Catholic you know the rules. Everyone wants an exception. So many in fact they have to have a synod over it. So don’t get mad at me for stating the obvious.
If I read correctly, all this claptrap would make one dream of ye old Catholicism, “a harsh religion that demanded things of you” as one FReeper recently said.
I haven't been "mad" since I was 13 years old. I only get irritated. You didn't even irritate me. I won't bother you again.
