The ones listed are merely bad popes, and if they did not repent of their mortal sins they are certainly in hell (though we can’t know whether they repented.) I reckon there have been maybe a dozen real stinkers over the past 2000 years. Even Jesus in his own time averaged 1 out of 12. But that is not an argument against the papacy, any more than Lee Harvey Oswald is an argument against the Marines.
It's a REALLY good argument about the effectiveness of Catholic teaching!!!
I wonder about the LOSERS in the vote for pope that got these sinners elected as head of your chosen religion.
Were there any MITTbots of their day, complaining that if ONLY they'd voted for the OTHER guy; we'd not have the Obama-pope that got elected!
"Merely" bad popes??? Like they weren't any different than any other Catholic? Aren't these men supposed to be Holy Spirit-specially-selected to succeed St. Peter in authority? I can't help but see duplicity when Martin Luther is thrown in the face of "Protestants" - as if they were involved in his selection as the Protestant "Pope" - but the very guys y'all insist MUST be obeyed and submitted to get a pass.
