Not so.
But I'm glad it gives me the opportunity to ou brought it up, since it gives me the opportuity to bring up a concept which many of us (Protestant and Catholic) may not be sufficiently aware of, and that is the Biblical idea of gradations of authoority.
The Catholic Church teaches that there is a certain degree of competency of authority which is proper at every level of the Church: a husband over a wife, parents over their children, a bishop over his diocese, etc. etc. There are sui generisand straight from God: they are not all local franchises of Pope Global Incorporated.
So in a sense they all have some degree of access , within their proper sphere, to those ensgins of power, the "keys."
Evey baptized person is anointed ---Catholics know this, or should --- with the oil that signifies a partaking of the offices of Christ: Priest, Prophet, King.
Each within his or her own sphere of responsibility.
Thank you for this opportunity.
And one might point out that each and every one of us is a fully vested Temple of YHWH... Which would tend to negate the impositions many would try to point to... And as such, the granting of keys might be seen as 'all y'all' in a much grander scheme, rather that 'y'all' or 'you'...
Indeed the power to bind and loose, as it can be found in the will of Man, lies in our personal inherent right to ask forgiveness for ourselves and more so, for our debtors.
When I replied to your statement of... Not to dominate, but to be shepherds like Christ, Who especially appointed Peter, personally, to the role of chief shepherd when He told him three times to "feed my lambs," "tend to my lambs," and "feed my sheep"; and also when He called him, personally, to "strengthen the brethren."
Show us WHERE Peter is the Chief.
Scripture allows for only a limited number of offices within the church body and VERY CLEARLY defines the qualifications for the men filling those positions.
Not only has the Catholic church gone above and beyond what was established by Paul in the number and types of office, but they have simply not followed his instructions in adhering to those qualifications as outlined in the letters to Timothy, Titus, and 1 Corinthians 5.
